It's hard to believe that The Who never had a #1 hit.

Definately my all time favorite band, and the one band I would choose above all others to see when all members were alive and well and in their prime. Only saw them personally in the first tour after Moon died.

As a drummer I've been checking out a lot of Keith Moon. He had a reputation for being a madman on the drums, but if you really listen, what he was doing was pretty sophisticated. He made things sound random when in reality he was spot-on and tight with the other musicians. He's not the drummer that Bonham was, but he is still up there. The song "Sparks" from Tommy is a good example.

True dat. I'm just as a huge fan of The Kinks as I am of The Who. Lola still give me the chills.

I've seen that. Great show. Daltry talking about how most drummers lay back and play simpler when the vocals come in, but not Moon. He saw the drums as lead instrument and played louder and busier when the vocals came in. When I was a kid I thought he was sloppy (mostly because of the sound quality of my stereo back then) but now that i really listen to the Who I have more appreciation. I also realized he was basically a surf drummer on steroids. He was a huge Beach Boys fan.

The Who was one of the greatest bands ever. Saw them do the Quadraphenia concert at the Forum and Keith Moon was INCREDIBLE. Saw Zepplin do Physical Graphiti at the same place and same result.

Pink Floyd at th LA convention center & I never saw so many cops heading to a concert in my life.

Anyway, my point is music will NEVER be as good as in that era, we had no idea at the time.

To think Gangsta Rappers rake in millions today makes me wanna PUKE!

One of the best shows I can remember as a Kid. The Who filled the LA Coliseum. And it was on a Tuesday or something because I remember ditching school. Something like 104,000 people were there. Lots of girls showing Boobs!

what year FTE?

I saw them in 79 at the Oakland Arena. Blackfoot opened. I'll never forget Baba O'riley and Won't Get Fooled Again with the keyboard synth at the beginning and Daltry swinging that mike and Townsend windmilling that geetar. AFUGGENMAZING is all I can say.

The late 70's concert at Tarrant County Convention Center is still the best concert I have ever attended. By a HUGE margin.

Baba O'Riley
Magic Bus
Summertime Blues

The Live at Leeds album was my first unassisted 'discovery' of 'my' music. I recently gave that to my daughter as a gift. Saw them here, last time through, too.

that was the same tour, Bobby. Moon died in '78 Kenney Jones from the Faces ( or small faces, i forget which) on drums.
