that's a pretty good retrospective.

The Kinks beat them to it by a year.

no kidding
i saw them in texas stadium in '82. it was awesome even without moon.
if you've never seen it, check out a documentary/rockumentary about the who titled, "the kids are allright." i've watched it probably twenty times.

yep- different style from bonzo, but great none the less.
VHC has a special onthe the Making of Who's Next and there's a segemnt where they isolate his part in one song- it's awesome

True dat. I'm just as a huge fan of The Kinks as I am of The Who. Lola still give me the chills.

I've seen that. Great show. Daltry talking about how most drummers lay back and play simpler when the vocals come in, but not Moon. He saw the drums as lead instrument and played louder and busier when the vocals came in. When I was a kid I thought he was sloppy (mostly because of the sound quality of my stereo back then) but now that i really listen to the Who I have more appreciation. I also realized he was basically a surf drummer on steroids. He was a huge Beach Boys fan.
My Generation
Magic Bus
I Can See For Miles
I'm Free
Substitute
Eminence Front
special mention for Pictures of Lily being about masturbation.
watch the rockumentary i mentioned. the who does "barbara ann" with keith doing (somewhat poorly) the lead vocal.
Pink Floyd at th LA convention center & I never saw so many cops heading to a concert in my life.
Anyway, my point is music will NEVER be as good as in that era, we had no idea at the time.
To think Gangsta Rappers rake in millions today makes me wanna PUKE!
what year FTE?
I saw them in 79 at the Oakland Arena. Blackfoot opened. I'll never forget Baba O'riley and Won't Get Fooled Again with the keyboard synth at the beginning and Daltry swinging that mike and Townsend windmilling that geetar. AFUGGENMAZING is all I can say.

The Live at Leeds album was my first unassisted 'discovery' of 'my' music. I recently gave that to my daughter as a gift. Saw them here, last time through, too.
