When I see people posting stuff that's known to be false info, do I...

Let it fly?

Edit the thread and let it continue?

Get rid of the source of the B.S?

Trash the whole thing?

So many choices.

Good question. Who is the arbiter of true/false? What/Who determines what is known to be "false info"?

Would be nice if there is a known source that is not biased.

With the internet at everyone’s disposal it is hard for anyone to know what is really true/false nowadays. It depends where people get the info....even they may not know they are posting false info. After all if they found it on the internet it must be true 😂

I like your policy of no politics, that solves a lot of problems

I think you would be spending way too much of your own time trying to keep track of what is true/false. Maybe just leave that part up to the individual posters to call one another out. If it begins to get uncivil then you should step in and begin deleting or giving time outs. That’s just my opinion 👍

Well, considering it's moto, and the industry has a track record of "false" info getting out there and in fact being true, why don't you crack a beer and not worry about it.

The thing is, I think a lot of people have broken B.S. meters. There's so much stuff that doesn't pass a sniff test, and people still buy into it.

Maybe you could hire a shit-sweeper. I’d offer but I have no idea what is truth and what isn’t so I wouldn’t be much help l. People ask me where I get my news and I say “Vital non moto” 😂
It’s no wonder I get a lot a strange looks

Your post intrigues me. It seems like something you’d say before you dropped the hammer on someone. But in case you were being genuine here you go:

I’m probably a little off here, but I assumed your advertisers and access (or lack thereof) to riders already dictated how you run the forums.

Social media is fraught with misinformation. I think the majority of adults here prefer and appreciate correct and
truthful information.

With the exception of “letting it fly” you can do all of the above. No reason to change at this point unless you’re looking to make your job a little less time consuming.

How much does an admin want to spend verifying claims, and why? How do you know something is false, unless it's blatantly obvious? Just take two current non-moto topics, someone searching for a laptop and market testing highs and lows. A lot of misleading info, and info based solely opinion.
Should you verify and/or demand sources? People could be hurt really bad following bad financial advice.

It gets tougher than people think IMO.

For example, I'll see something insane/silly and reply sarcastically to it and I'm sure a bunch of people out there take my post as serious. I think trying to delete it all would be a nightmare for you. I like when people can reply and set others straight but you still can't keep people from believing the original BS that was posted.

I've been thinking for a while that the smart phone and it's instant portable access to information, both true and false will go down in history as one of the biggest factors that shape the culture in the future. From the constant algorithms used to process and manipulate our thought has left folks unable to contemplate and formulate their own outcome on anything. We have become a society of regurgitators of opinions.

Do what you see fit, it's your platform. Keep it live as long as it stays ethical. But keep an even keel when things need cleaning.

“What can you do, thought Winston, against the lunatic who is more intelligent than yourself; who gives your arguments a fair hearing and simply persists in his lunacy?”

Maybe you should consider a "user-self-governing" system, for example if a post gets 20 downvotes it automatically disappears. As usual, each user can only downvote once.

Wait one damn minute!

You mean to tell me that it's not true simply because I read it on the internet?

Unless you pre screen the members , any line in the sand is impossible to police . Is 50% bullshit too much ? 40 , 30 , 20 ? Ok ... now you just need to measure the bs content ... good luck with that
