Are the yellow track markers just a suggested route? Looks like some guys were going inside them to a smoother line. I know i would be too. that track seemed rougher than i recall in a lot of years.

It depends on who's watching.

I believe DC has said before on here that the yellow markers are a mere suggestion but should be followed to as best of the riders ability. We see riders go outside of them all the time.

Seriously, if you went to all 12 nationals, you’d probably see every single rider do it several times on race day.

I guess you have never seen one up close or touched one, they are made out of a soft rubber like material that is about as dangerous as a rubber spatula.

That was a non issue today, but did you see all the lightning between 1-7? That was a way bigger issue.

I guess you haven't either because they are most definitely not made of a rubber like material. They are plastic with a thin area that's cut out to allow for flex. They are actually quite sturdy. Without the flex, or if someone put one in the wrong way, it has the potential to be an issue, albeit quite small.

Well hell I only put about 500 of them in at Lakewood so what would I know. You can fold them back and forth. They are not the hard plastic like everyone thinks and are pretty flexible. "Soft rubber like material" like I said may not be the best description but they are no danger to impale anyone and the only hard plastic part is the spike at the bottom to stick them in the ground., and you need to push it in at the spike because it will fold over if you try to push it in with the yellow part.

A better description is Soft flexible plastic like in number plates and or MX fenders etc

That is a much better description, however, I think our definition of flexible is different. I wouldn't want to land straight on top of the rear fender of a Honda. Impale, no. Damage, potentially. The track marker is basically a fork guard with a cut out.

Ps. I was mostly busting your balls with your own comment because I felt rubber was quite misleading. Hell, I only used to run things at Lakewood but what would I know Wink

I've spent more time around those yellow markers than anyone and I can assure you that the only way it could be a potential issue, even a quite small one, is if you tried to swallow one. They are about as sturdy as those orange pieces of Hot Wheels track.

One additional note...the black plastic base? That's hard plastic. The yellow upper? Not so much.

You might even say it could potentially decapitate someone to death.

Unfortunately, it happens every year to some extent at Southwick, as the soil is very soft, and without digging the track down into the ground (kind of like Washougal) it's very hard to hold them strictly between the yellow markers. I counted a bunch of guys going off here and there, not just Marvin. We will be looking into fixes this week.

Exactly! Deeds gets it. I heard there were people being electrocuted all over the facility between 1 and 7. Those track markers ain't got nothing for that biblical lightning.

Marvin is going to best remembered for how many times He cuts the track over the course of a season.

The guy does it over and over, I'm sure others do it to but Marvin is very noticeable

They’re talking about an intentional line that Marvin, and others, were taking that went in-side a marker or two. In other places there were lines that took riders outside the markers.

I love how this sport involves 40 odd dudes railing motorcycles at top speed, in close proximity, on a rutted, rocky track... yet freak track marker impalement is apparently a top concern for some Laughing

Yeah I know, guess the sarcasm didn't come across...saying that, it's all connected with vague rules that you can't truly enforces because they are open to interpretation
