...in the world.

He's the best in the world because he has beaten the best in the world. Here is the list:

Pourcel

Canard

Stewart

Reed

Villopoto

Cairoli

Not only did he beat them, he beat many of them convincingly. Look at that list again, and think about it. All champions, all winners, all fast, and ALL beaten by Dungey. It's great when the facts speak for themselves. But beyond that, this is what I have heard on this message board the last couple of years (paraphrased):

'Dungey won't beat Pourcel"

"Dungey got lucky"

"Dungey won't win the SX in his first year"

"Dungey got lucky"

AFTER winning the SX, this is what I heard:

"Dungey won't win the outdoor title"

"Dungey won't beat Stewart"

"Lucky Villopoto isn't there"

"Dungey got lucky"

"Dungey won't beat Cairoli"

"Cairoli had issues"

"Wait till next year, that's the true test"

Wait till what? 2011? Why, cause Stewart, Reed, Pourcel, Canard, and Pourcel will be there? Please see above list of who Dungey has already beat. Yep, I'm a fan!

Motocross is what have you done for me lately. Yes right now Dungey is the best period. But until Villopoto comes back and Stewart he still has some proving to do. Dungey is smart too. He does what is nessisary and does not ride over his head, this may not make him faster than Stewart but because Stewart crashes and often does not slow down when he needs to, Dungey beats him. I like Dungey, Stewart and Villopoto and Canard. Is Dungey the best right now, yes, if he wins a couple of more championships against the other guys we will be able to say definitively he is the worlds fastest or at least the worlds best.

Amen to that. Ryan Is the best in the world for now and when next year rolls around. They'll be silenced.

I'm going to bat for Dungey here: He already beat Villopoto and Stewart. Both aforementioned riders are animals, but that speaks just as much for Dungey (since he has beat them) as it does for them. Why is there always a new litmus test for Dungey; for example, what title has Villopoto won on the big bike? It should be the other way around -- the test should be for Stewart and Villopoto at this point, not Dungey. Dungey has the wins and titles to prove it.

Couldnt have said it any better Billy Jack. It is not up to Ryan to beat them now, it is up to them to beat Ryan.

Talent........Hard work.......and SMOOTHNESS, goes a long way.........And a great team, bike, family and mechanic weight in heavily. Also.........staying out of the flat bill social club helps, as does having a belief in God and family (did I say that twice...sorry). Luck helps, but the great ones make their own….......any questions? It seems to be a good combo (Trey?). Can I mention God, family and teamwork without a waiver? I know I'm one of those crazy American's. The ones who are sick of keeping silent....

Not to me since I think his faith (as well as Canard's) goes a long way toward creating the type of character that Dungey (and Canard) is...which is integral to why he is a champion.

If you go to transworld.com and watch the fuel tv video they just put up on Dungey and the sx season, you wont question why he is the champ.

part of what makes him so good is he is feedback to his mechanic. Him and Reed are the best. Ryan is the total package

Yep, lot's of things go into making a champ, and Ryan has utilized his opportunities and has done what is necessary to get the job done. Again, that's why I think he is the best in the world.

I hesitated to say what you just said because so many people think he has to prove himself over and over and over. He is the best and the others must now prove themselves.
The litmus test was the perfect statement and once again this has been on my mind before and i am glad you said it so you can take the shit! Smile I am one of those that saw him grow up jumping things on an 80 that some A riders hesitated to do.. and his corners were always beyond belief! Anyway, i hope its safe for us that know and love that kid to say he's pretty darn good now and not get beat up over it!

He beat Pourcel in much more rigorous settings: The outdoors. And I am not simply talking about the title, I am talking about one on one races. J-Law has not done the same, or beat the caliber of talent that Dungey has (aside from beating Dungey early in his career).

Thats just the point......He believes in the things that matter, thats why he is where he is......I don't believe God makes him ride better (lol)......but belief in something other then fame, money, drugs, etc. is a positive thing.....and bringing your family along is a good thing...

PS - I'm in no way a holy roller, just making a point.....

Speaking of J-Law.........Lets hope he is learning from this and can get things together.. He's a young kid and can change. Lets hope he can grab the positives from Ryan and Trey and move forward. Youth, talent, money and lack of dislipline are a bad combo. Don't give up on the kid yet..........Also, a swift kick in the ass never hurts these types, if it comes from the right source......

RC had nothing to do with discovering him. I give that cred to Cole Gress and Roger for being smart enough to have an open mind.

James went 24-0 against the same competition, Dungey was unable to do that. Dungey won the 250's last year because Pourcel crashed. James beat Ryan in SX, RV beat Ryan in every motocross championshiped he entered against him. So you are right, they have the wins and titles to rpove it. So who is it that should be tested?

Here's the problem... when RV beat Stewart and Reed twice in '09, everybody said "it didn't count because he wasn't in the points".

You see, there will always be an excuse, no matter who it is. I do feel that Dungey needs to race a full SX series against Reed, Stewart, RV, and now Canard to quiet any doubts.

That is the reality of the situation, IMO. If he does that, then there will nothing more to question.

Cant wait for A1:

Dungey
Stewart
Villopoto
Canard
Pourcel
Stroupe
Reed

In that order!

We could have a different winner each week.

dungey is definetly at the top of the game, but i think for him to be the best in the world he would need to race and win the gp series as well.
by your logic that he beat AC in 1 race this year and that makes him the best in the world? Stewy won 1 sx race this year, so i guess he is the fastest sx racer int eh world?

I see what you are saying, but i think we have somehow developed and encouraged the "asterisk factor" mentality the last few years, where we want to say that Reed only is champ because Bubba was out, or Dungey isn't the best because Reed and Stewart were out.....and while i do see that side of it, what ever happened "being in it to win it", champions have to know how to do that too...

If Bubba comes back and wins the title away from Dungey, then he will be champ again, but untill then, its fair play to call Dungey the champ and by extension the best out there.....

untill someone else takes it, we shouldn't be taking anything from the Dungeynator.

He is the best, any current champ deserves that right i think, they put themselves in that position and they deserved to be called the best, plain and simple
