I was talking with Billy Liles yesterday and we were talking about the ol' 2strokes and vintage racing from then and today. He is REALLY hooked on racing vintage stuff and will be racing an upcoming event in texas. that got me thinking of how many people today actually have a vintage bike and If you do, how often is it rode/raced if at all???

I have a 1985 Honda 500 that I race 1 or 2 times a year. I would do more but most of the races clash with my sons off road races.
They are a ton of fun and the people are great.

79 RM250 project, 81 YZ465 with full Race Tech suspension. The shock is so good it's like cheating. Low stress, lots of laughs, older guys that appreciate MX history. The same camaraderie as the early days. Everyone loans tools, parts, even bikes. Hardly anyone riding out of control or any take outs. Cost is about the same for some hard parts but a lot of good stuff can be scrounged on a few different web sites. Oh yeah, race ready 81 Maico 490's are easily $4000 plus.

I am working on getting something, a friend of mine has an 82 cr125, 86 cr125, 87 yz250, and 89 rm125. He brings them all the the races and we all play around on practice day with them........I now want one bad

I actually just sold my 2006 Kx250f race bike and bought (2) 87 RM125's and a 81 YZ80 to start vintage racing. Doing full restores on them as we speak. We actually have a vintage series in Michigan that hits like 6-8 tracks. I'm hoping to race 1 or both of mine quite abit this year.

'81 xr80 as it was one i restored to look identical to the one i learned to first ride on. nothing you could ever race though. steel tanks are sweet.

I picked up an '82 RM250 last spring, spent the summer getting it ready and raced four vintage races in the fall. It's been the most fun I've had on a bike in years.

I think its awesome. The older I get the more I understand & appreciate the guys out there doing it. When the 93-96 CR 250's are legal for post vintage I'll be all over a restore.
I have nostalgia with that era, so i can relate to guys that are doing it now with the older bikes currently running.

I have a 1981 YZ250, 1978 RM250 C1, and pieces of a 1979 KX125.

I sold the 1978 YZ250 that is in my profile this past Sept. It was stolen from the new owner in Oct. Angry I also sold a second 1981 YZ250 and a second 1979 KX125 last year.

I've raced the AHRMA national at Devil's Ridge in 2008 and 2009. I rode the '81 YZ250 about 5 times last year. I just got the RM250 and I'm waiting on shocks and a few other parts before it can be ridden. I would like to ride them more but I have to work around health problems and go whenever I have the energy plus good weather.

I even started collecting some old gear also. I have a couple JT Racing "bones" pants, Jt Racing chest protector, Sinisalo jersey, Sinisalo boot gators, Hi-Point Alpinstar boots, Bell moto-5 and Shoei Fx-2 helmets, etc.! I cant wait till this snow melts so I can start riding.

My 74 CR250 got raced about twelve times a year from 92-95. Then some from 98-01 when I tore it apart, modded the hell out of it and raced it about 16-18 times a year for a few more years. Haven't been riding much lately but put four motos and a TT race on it a month or so ago. Best part about a vintage bike is even after 18 years now it is still one of the most competitive bikes in the class. Never have to buy a new bike, just keep this one alive.....which at times can be costly.



80 model CR125 we thrashed in original condition with a few suspension upgrades for 8 years before we tore it apart and went completely through it. Oldest son rides it mostly now. Hauls ass! Lots of motos on it.





My 81 YZ250 I put together at the end of 04. Great bike but feels down on power for an 81 model. I need to dig into the engine and get it up to par with the rest of the bike.

My buddy has 16 RMs. I think they are all worth about $3000 total.

I have raced his 84 RM250 a few times but I think I am going to fix up a 465 that he has and try and race it a few times next year. Missouri has got a pretty good series going.

Was just at Three Palms over new years and there was some pretty nice vintage stuff there.

I race a 76 YZ250 in the Texas TVRC series. Same series as CamP. Their motto is "Motocross for the fun of it" and they stick to that. It is laid back and a lot of fun.

I have a 75 MX400 I want to build and almost enough parts to build a second one. I also have a very nice unrestored 72 DT2MX I want to restore.

I had bikes in the 80s and seeing more and more vintage bikes these days i think i'm going to get one and ride and race, going to have to look into where there are orgs up here..
