is just horrible.

Not that our opinions will matter much, but let's float some alternate ideas for the powers to be. Yes, we'll be ignored, but I'd be curious what the collective genius of Vital could create.

My vote: World Dirtbike Championship

or

World Motorcycle Championship.

Simplify the name and "class" it up a little.

And yes, I know it's a cross of the two brands because "supercross" has huge value as does "motocross"...but damn it's a horrible name.

Supermotocross is a mouthful, let alone “The Monster Energy Supermotocross World Championship presented by Monster Energy in partnership with Monster Energy. Brought to you by Monster Energy, unleash the beast.”

I think if they just switched from Supermotocross to SuperMX it would clean it up a lot.

Eh it’s just change from the norm.

Similar to many car/truck design changes. Come off ugly at first but most times end up great. Although some end up always being terrible changes haha!

Lets just call it exactly what it is:

AMA SMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

or just

SMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

just don't spell it out the long name. its just stupid looking. But SMX is obviously Supercross and Motocross, DO NOT CALL IT SUPERMOTOCROSS. Supermoto is already another sport. See how you just made a conflict with yourself AMA?

I have to agree with the MXGP contingent that you shouldn't call a series "World Championship" if it is only contested in one country.

AMA Grand National Championship seems fitting to me.

To hell it will.. remember; supercross champion of the supercross class??

I still vehemently dislike “lites” and “supercross” class moniker’s

If a series went around the world and was just a team of 20 Americans, would you consider it a world championship?

The first thing that came to my mind is if the FIM will take legal action. They may call it a World Championship but I really don't think they have the legal grounds to do it. The FIM supersedes all other sanctioning bodies as far as I know. The FIM could say that the AMA series calling a World Championship damages the FIM and sue for big money.

From the FIM website.

"The FIM is the governing body for motorcycle sport and the global advocate for Motorcycling.

FIM is the supreme and sole international authority empowered to control international motorcycling events organised under its jurisdiction throughout the world.

It is recognised by the IOC as the sole competent authority in motorcycle sport. "

If it was open to all entries and only 20 Americans competed I'd say it's still a World Championship.

If it's organized by American promoters with 20 hand-picked American riders only then I's say it's just a traveling circus.

That's what I say too. Supercross is and will always be an AMERICAN sport. Its the lineup of multiple international riders that make it a WORLD SUPERCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP. FIM is just being a sour puss about losing the Supercross deal.

Yeah, we'd be moaning about MXGP as a European championship if they stayed in Europe.
But nobody would re-use that venerated AMA Grand National Championship name unfortunately. Would have been funny to suggest it like it was brand new and see who knows their history.

Supercross, Motocross, SuperMoto and SuperMotoCross. Try explaining that to a non-hardcore fan.

I'm fine with it. If the racing and the tracks are good, I don't really care what they call it!

I feel like the "World Championship" thing is Feld and MX Sports giving the FIM the middle finger for creating a faux world championship in WSX. Since both Supercross and the Nationals are under AMA jurisdiction, and the AMA is an affiliate of the FIM, they are overstepping their bounds. I could see the AMA suffering repercussions for allowing this (not legal, though), but I don't think they really care.
