Who? Short Stack from Texas? I heard he's a hang glider instructor out there in Ca. these days. Guessing if you mixed it up with these guys on a weekly basis you were pretty good.

I remember he won a 500cc National here in Texas at Lake Whitney with a pot leaf sticker on the top of his helmet. Dude was cool and fast...

The write up inside BERM is great. Read the book front to back.

Little known fact about Short Stack (other than he isn't so short!) is that he was born in Germany, raised in Wyoming, but known as a Texas rider...

Yep. That's the Torrey Pines glider port next to the golf course.

steve operates out of the torrey pines gliderport in torrey pines ca, giving tandem paragliding rides, flying lessons and working on various gliders, kites and harness designs.
steve flies both the paragliders and hang gliders, but really prefers the hang glider because it's faster and more maneuverable.
he flies gliders a lot like he rode. it's really pretty to watch.
there's been a few times when i've been around and someone has brought up some sort of aerobatic maneuver that is just a little risky (equivalent of a simple stoppie for example).
i always get a giggle out of people who don't know his background, asking "steve, is that something you've ever tried?".
i don't even have to wait around for the answer.

Love Stack! Anyone have pics of him on a Maico? That's the image that springs to mind. And of course the world-famous "leaf" helmet. Plus that flowing style (bike and hair). Now we need a photo of Stack duking it out with The Jammer! Man, moto was cool back then...

On at least one of his helmets the leaf wasn't painted, wasn't a sticker...it was the real deal under clear coat.
