This kinda suprises me, that they would issue a recall for a chain

How long to people expect a stock chain to last? I usually replace them pretty fast because they always suck no matter what brand the bike is

Have you seen the KTM, KTHusky and KTGG recalls relating to chains this year?

I've no idea if the KTM made bikes share the same supplier as Honda ( I'd doubt it), but it's a strange coincidence.

There might be other Japanese manufacturers with chain related recalls, soon. There might be a bit of same supplier / same batch problems going on.

Eff ups happen, at least we have a bit of protection with recalls. You'd not be happy though, if you'd already been hurt by a failure, or had machine damage done , but a recall could / should enable those that have been affected, recourse.

The chain is the LEAST of the problems with the 2021 Honda CRF450R. My dealer has 5 in service that are all jacked up. 1 Works Edition and 4 R’s. The WE has yet to even see the track and when you start it the header pipe starts glowing red after about 45 seconds of idling. The other 4 just won’t start at all. They all look brand new.

what a coincidence, my dealer has three or four new Yamaha's in service. The one I saw had a cracked frame. Looked brand new!

I don’t think I’ve ever owned a 4 stroke where the header didn’t glow if I ran it indoors. I’d be more likely to send it back if it didn’t

I just found out my 21' CRF450 is one of the affected models for the recall. I've got 12 or so hours on the bike and have had zero issues but either way I'm talking to my dealer to get it all squared away.

Sounds like something that started with a lawsuit somewhere if Honda isn't the only one. They weighed the cost vs legal and reputational risk and decided better to make it right.

Just a guess.

My new Honda endo’d over a 3rd gear booter at Pala. Should I see if the warranty will cover that?

Tell your dealer to throw a new spark plug in the ones that are not starting and to throw the new map in from Honda and they should be good to go.

I remember when the '98 YZ400f was released and new owners freaked out and called the dealer because the header was glowing red when they let it idle. Hahaha

The owner has never ridden it. It was a Christmas gift. He started it at home, sounded funny so he brought it back to the dealer. It’s been here since Dec waiting on Honda.
