Had my 3 race meeting yesterday and the result are definitely improving. Although I’m finding I ride no where near as good as I do on a practise day. In regards to technique, jumps etc. Does anyone else have this problem or tips to help?
Also, did any of you guys see yourself getting faster when started racing?
Thanks in advance

In the UK at clubman level. something like the following works based on twice a week on the bike.
Mid week practice
Simulate a practice/qualifying session first
1 x 4 to 5 lap slow pace, learn the track and get the jumps dialled in the first 3 laps - on the last 2 laps try and lay down a quick lap and note the best time. (For discussion sake lets say a 1.52)
15 minute break
1 x 8 lap (focus on staying between 1.54-1.56)
20 minute break
Sighting lap then,
3 x 2 lap sprints (stay within 1.52.5 - 1.54) rest for 2-3 mins between sprints
10 minute break
10-15 mins of skills working on 1-2 techniques
10 minute break
1 x 10-12 lap (1.55-1.58 - working on standing and implementing you technique for the day)
Start practice then home.
Weekend Practice (if a non race day)
Simulate a practice/qualifying session again first
1 x 4 to 5 lap slow pace, learn the track and get the jumps dialled in the first 3 laps - on the last 2 laps try and lay down a quick lap and note the best time. (For discussion sake lets say a 1.52)
20 minute break
1 x 8 lap (focus on staying within 1.54-1.56 consistently and working on your technique from midweek)
30 minute break
Sighting lap then,
3 x 2 lap sprints (stay within 1.52.5 - 1.54) have a 2-3 minute break in between each sprint.
10 minute break
1 x 10 lap (1.54-1.56 - working on standing and implementing you technique from midweek)
Start practice then home.
At lot of that can be alleviated by practicing a lot and making sure your fitness is on point. Smaller races at the amateur level typically aren’t long enough to truly test fitness, but the fitter you are the harder you know you can push without getting tired, which in turn adds to your confidence, which allows you to stay calmer.
I had an interesting thing happen years ago that really pounded home how much I was beating myself. I was friends with a track owner. I raced at their place all weekend and threw out the anchor in each moto after being up front. Arm pump, etc etc. After Sunday's races were over and we were the only ones there, I went back out on the track for fun and ripped off a couple 20-plus minute rides like nothing, going the same speed or better than in the races. All mental.

Just keep getting better, it’ll eventually click.
I’m not fast enough enough to win and I’m at a vet C level but race in vet B. Makes it easier to follow more experienced riders and pick up on better habits 🙂
I guess the only difference for me is in practice I’ll try sections I’m lacking in rather than ride the whole track.
