I have an '06, but I believe the '06-'08 where unchanged. The '04 and '05 where good too, but I believe the motors where a bit more abrupt. I'd say '04 and up you can't do wrong. Others I'm sure will chime in here.

I got an 02 and I absolutely love it. 04-+ has the Showa suspension and some other small updates that my 02 doesnt have.

I"ve had an 01, 02, 04, 06

Beware of the clutch on an 01 and the motor is a little soft I felt. 02 was a really good bike and with a Vforce and a bills pipe with a little suspender work I was hooked. They kept getting better and better. My 06 is solid everywhere and so much damn fun. Luckily they all turn like a dream! Also the 01 was a little sketchy and twitchy no matter what I did. Good luck man and have fun!

01-03 were ok, 04-05 were much better and 06-08 were completely refined. IMO, I would possibly settle for an 05 if it was a great deal and an absolute dime piece. Otherwise, I would hold out for an 06-08. I'm currently on an 07 but I have had several. The RM 250 is probably the best all around 2 stroke IMO and it is quickly becoming the unicorn of MX bikes. Here is my newest.

Do you want an RM just to have an RM, or are you looking for particular characteristics in a bike?

Can't go wrong with the 06, just remember to stay on top of things a bit more than you probably need to with a Honda or Yamaha.

Personally if you are out looking Id go with 2005 and up. They made changes on the 2005 due to input from Carmichael and IMHO the bikes from '05 on were much better than models prior.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. I just got done putting the graphics on it. I have an 11 450 that looks identical. Once the snow melts I'm going to take some quality photos before the first ride since they never look as good as they do on day 1.

I rebuilt this old girl over the winter. Its an 04. I got to ride it for the first time last weekend. I haven't had that much fun on a bike in years after riding 450's for so long. I still have a 450 to race this season but I just wanted a 2 stroke to have fun on. This thing turns better then anything I've ever ridden.

I believe the 06 had very slightly different port timing or ignition but basically 06-08 are the same. I had an '08. great bike, good fun all-rounder.

This pic was before I fitted PC pipe as well, although standard pipes are VERY good.

I have a few, this is my latest toy that I built over the winter, 04 and up are all good, 05 has the newer showa suspension on it, but the best overall package is the 06-08 because of porting, But they are all good

I bought an 01 just because I was looking for a cheap bike to get out on every now and then since it seemed like I wasn't riding nearly as much as I used to. So it turned out that I love this thing, I was coming off of much newer 4 strokes and even though everyone says that this isn't the best year I must admit that its the best bike I have ever had. All of my other bikes have been pretty much stock so that may be part of it but this has the suspension done by MCR, motor mods, v force, pro circuit and other trinkets and I find the motor really nice. My main riding buddy says it pulls harder than his YZ250 and turns much better.
oh yeah and I am now riding more than ever.

Go for the 06-08, and as MXD said the RM 250 is probably the best all around 2 stroke IMO and it is quickly becoming the unicorn of MX bikes! It's that good.

My 2008 which I recently sold......and miss...a lot!!

One of the best bikes I ever owned. As others have said, the later model 250 was a very refined bike. Very easy to ride, smooth power and great suspension.

My friend has a really fresh 04 and that is a different animal entirely. Abrupt, snappy power with a more barky exhaust note and suspension that feels a little harsher in the small choppy stuff. It's still a really good bike though and a fast pro might even prefer the 04 engine over the later models?

I had an 03 and have an 06. I don't think that you can go wrong with any of them from 02 on depending on price. They are great bikes but OEM parts prices are insane. Luckily, the need for OEM parts is pretty slim these days. I think that Digger has had all of them, you might try getting in touch with him.

I have a buddy in Davidsonville, MD that has 2 2005 RM250's for sale. Full mod $3500(some unobtanium from TP), w/o motor mod $2500. Bikes are loaded and super clean.

There is so much aftermarket still available and prices aren't too bad. Even the OEM stuff I find not bad. I'm 3/4 finished restoring my old 91'RM125. I can't believe how many OEM parts are readily available and sitting on shelves only a few days away!

I had an 02 that was a good motorcycle......when it ran. I spent more time working on the thing than riding it. Hopefully the newer ones are more reliable.
