RC and Reed on James Stewart

Edited Date/Time 12/14/2020 6:44pm
When these two icons say they were not willing to do what James did, that's some high praise. I don't think there has been any other rider that has blown me away like James did.

The thing with Stewart, is his confidence in himself was a big factor. He had so much raw skill that he was just exciting to watch.

That’s pretty high praise from those two.

SX in the early to mid 2000s where they were pushing those 250 two strokes seemed so fucking intense. 02–05 were so epic to watch, I wish we got to see James and Chad battle their careers on two strokes the whole time. Definitely some good battles lost to four strokes.

Put me in the camp of not a Stewart fan. However, if JS7 would've had the grit and determination that RC and CR did he would've broken all the records, but he didn't.

James was the most exciting rider to watch that ever set foot on a motocross track period.

Two incredibly intelligent racers/competitors giving respect. Those three had the most intense battles and fierce minds. Wish we could bottle that up and inject it into today. Different mindsets nowadays.

Certainly one of the most dynamic. Really enjoyed watching him riding a dirt bike. Incredible.

James elevated the sport just as RC and Mcgrath did before him. He was exciting to watch and the technique is often imitated in todays riders. The way he misdirected his momentum and carried more speed was quite impressive.

James was willing to do things that other riders weren't, and do them at the speed that he did them...because (in my opinion) he KNEW he could. He had supreme confidence in his own abilities, and talent. Like a guy suddenly turns into a contender from an also-ran after he wins his first overall...James flat knew what he was capable of.

Yeah, I'm still a fan. He was one of the most amazing riders to watch ever.

Such a cool interview...watched it twice. One of these days I hope we get those three legends at a round table reminiscing past races. I would pay to see that.

I've seen every badass champ ride in person since the early 80's, including most of the Euro legends, from Hannah, to RJ, MC, RC, Reed, Villo, etc. and Stew is hands down the most impressive from the "eye test". That dude did things that just made your jaw drop.

Not a fan of Gypsy but that whole episode is definitely worth watching, some of the most epic bench racing ever.
Will be an awesome day if Stew ever sits down to chew the fat with RC and Reedy.

I remember going to Supercross races when stew was racing and when I would get there, I’d subconsciously dissect the track wondering where James might quad something.

No other rider made me do that.

Even though I don't care for Stewart I would never dispute that he was (one of) the most exciting riders to watch. I'm dating myself with this statement but Danny "Magoo" Chandler was pretty damn exciting. Hard to compare eras though.

Don't worry about dating yourself I'm old enough to have watched Danny in his hay day and yes he was spectacular as well. In all my years of spectating I'd rate it Bubba, Magoo and then Hurricane as guys I'd never take my eyes off of when they were circulating the race track.

I think its interesting these days hearing riders say they hated doing it for a living. People would rip RV when he was open about it and now guys like Seely and RC have even come and said it wasnt fun (Outside of winning).

I’m sure I’ll get some hate, but I think James is the most talented rider to ever throw a leg over a dirt bike. What he did, especially on a 125, was absolutely incredible to watch. The battles between him, Ricky, and Chad were an absolute joy to watch.
