i like electric bike in concept....i just wish they were louder......its hard to tell where he is in relevance to behind the other bike I had a good buddy absolute destroyed by an electric bike that whiskey tboned him and there was absolutely no warning of the incoming hit because it was silent. the go pro footage was scary as hell.

Track looked smooth as a highway and windy as fudge....Nice goPro, not all shaky and crap. Didn't get sick to my stomach watching it. Fun to watch

Gotta be honest. The sound of that toaster makes me want to vomit.

4-strokes sound bad enough (compared to 2-strokes).... but when that becomes the future. Racing is dead to me.

I feel like a lot of people miss that the main benefit of electric bikes is the lack of noise. Which is actually the only reason I have an Alta. I have a full track at my house and ride anytime from 6am until dark. Usually get a moto in before heading to work a few days a week. With trees around it, no one knows it's there. When I load up and go to a motocross track, I take the gas bikes and still prefer them...but I end up riding the Alta way more just because of convenience of riding at home.

i get it. i'm all about it....but i think mixed with 4 stroke/2stroke racing they need something....because silence is gonna get people wrecked. my buddy got destroyed and the go pro of it was sickening because there was no sound/warning of the hit...no panick rev no wide open throttle next to ya...and you could see it in this video every time he dove in on the 4 stroke the guy didn't know he was there til his bike took his line.

These videos are so pointless. “Destroys 4 strokes”. Well you’re on the vet track at cahuilla in an over the hill gang race. You could get out there on an xr200 and have the same result.

I still want an Alta, wish they wouldn’t have went under! I’d own one now but scared of the lack of support for them sadly!

Great video btw!

First vid is Bryan Haskell “Theycallmebryan” here on Vital. He is no slouch on a dirt bike.

That was the Vet Expert class. My friend on the YZ450 is a damn fast dude for 50+; he rides with Coty Schock, who has to put on his "I'm a real pro" hat to get around him. It's a serious enough test of the Alta.

Also, there is absolutely no way in Hell anyone on an XR200 is going to pass #177. Martz on that 450, Tomac on an XR200, Martz FTW. Cool

"I'm a real pro hat"? Coty can blow my doors off with a hand tied behind his back on a 125 with the rear brake stuck on. And I'm at least equal to Bryan speed wise. Laughing

The amount of seconds per lap that Coty has disgraced me by at Cahiulla...at Glen Helen...at a damn corner track in the desert has made me consider quitting all together...

Which part?

Because, sure - Coty Schock would wax all of us on this board, and my friend as well. He simply can't do it with one hand behind his back when riding with Steve. (Michael, with all due respect I think if you tied Coty's hand behind his back you could beat him, handily. No pun intended.) Come to think of it, that would be a funny challenge: "Coty, ride with only one hand and see if you can beat Steve!"

With regard to the XR200, well, honestly a lot of us on this board could beat Tomac if he were riding one of those. An XR200 simply does not have the power, handling or suspension to allow anyone to ride it faster than a modern 450. It's not a knock on Eli or an overestimation of my friend's abilities to say that. To wit, it's 90% rider, 10% bike... unless one of the bikes is an XR200! Laughing

Remember, guys - when talking about "fast," we are talking about slivers of seconds at the top levels. It takes a lot more talent to to even a tiny bit faster once you get close to the top. Tomac is only a few seconds per lap (5-10) faster than Schock, who is probably only a few faster than Michael Lindsey, who is only a few faster than Bryan Haskell, for instance. Add it all up and it's probably 20-30 seconds a lap on a regular MX course while riding equivalent bikes. This is a difference far less than the difference imposed on a good rider by riding a playbike.

To loop all the way back around to my original point that I was trying to make when I proclaimed the speed virtues of my buddy: The Alta is indeed a reasonably fast machine, as proved by the fact that a rider, ANY RIDER, was able to beat my friend and his YZ450F on one.

An electric pit bike the size of a klx140 that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg would be a lot of fun for me.

The hand tied comment was a bit of jest but I was referring to the fact you can handicap Coty quite heavily and he’d still smoke me our the two guys in the video.

By example, last year at Ironman, Coty got sixth in 450 moto two. His best laptime was 3 seconds off of Tomac’s best (who won the moto), 1.5 off Sexton’s best in fourth…

I’d be about 15-20 seconds slower a lap then Coty at Ironman.

I’d be at least ten seconds a lap slower than Coty at Cahuilla’s main track.

I think you are giving everyone involved too much credit haha. The gaps aren't linear in that Coty is several seconds off Tomac (like Michael posted) but behind that the non pros are dropped in a matter of corners rather than laps.

No gears, no clutch, it’s a different sport and I’m not interested in it.
