Now it needs to be dead engine.
Much more fair than a complete restart. JMO
they don't always make the right decisions but tonight is a perfect example of what to do.....by following the rules and executing them correctly.
They followed the rulebook. It was a surprise to just about everyone here (and most of the riders), but it seemed to work out well.
wait......
na that won't work most SX riders today are only like 5'3''

It's weird how nobody (RC, KW, Emig, etc) say they've never seen one before. I had to be in one at an AMA-sanctioned amateur race. There was a horrible wreck almost halfway through our moto, so we had to restart. The AMA ref on hand actually knew the rule (or thought he did) and it worked out okay. It kind of surprises me that none of those guys have seen one before tonight, honestly.
It was the right call. Odd, but correct.
First of all, it isn't a "staggered start"...That is when you want to run 2 classes from the same gate, and they all don't want to leave the gate together. The "single file" start, (we used to make the riders do it "dead engine"), has been around for 50 years. When we were doing it in the early '90's, it was because we got the idea from some old timers who had done it that way in the '60's, 70's and 80's. Where have some of you been?!? The single file start worked last night just as it is supposed to...perfectly.
...the first time I saw the single file start was circa 1990 at AX...who ran AX at that time you ask? Well it was former Grand National Flat Track Champion, Mike Kidd. It was common in Flat Track to do that kind of restart.
Good Job AMA!
