Took my 2020 kx250 to have the valve spring issue fixed. Took my bike there perfectly clean, good running, and immaculate shape. Got it back after a month finally, thing was completely nasty and gross, they put the wrong bolts in a few places no I have one completely stripped out in the frame and can’t get it out. Has anyone else had anything similar happen like this?

So sorry to hear of that! Ive brought my bike to shops that were owned/operated by” friends” and have had shoddy work done ...You can complain but chances are you wont get anywhere and your focus/energy would be better spent elsewhere. Lets face it, if thats the type of work they produce then its probable your stress level just goes up trying to resolve it and they do nothing ...Unfortunately its the world we live in where your dollar means nothing to these businesses and how dare you hold them accountable to the service they should perform. Lets say they agree to “repair” it . Now it sits there for who knows how long and the potential for more disaster to happen to your “ new” bike. Now youve lost more riding time while stress level is back up ... Clean your bike up, put the bolts back where they belong and if you need some guidance on how to remove the broken bolt there’s plenty of us @vitalmx and other forums that will be happy to help! Not trying to minimize your experience but id simply stay away from that dealer and move forward in getting your stripped bolt repaired and take this as a learning experience.

The average dealer tech reminds me of Joe Peschi’s line in Casino...”This guy was a disaster...he could fuck up a cup of coffee.”

Unfortunately with recalls/warranty work, you’re stuck. If I could, I’d deliver a bare roller with an engine to minimize what they could dick up...after all, I’d damn sure be tearing it down to check their work anyway.

Yeah everything else seems to be fine, but the stripped out spot on my frame is the part that kills me cause now I gotta try to get it out and hopefully fix it. I’m super ocd about my bikes and can’t handle that just aggravated me that they wouldn’t take better care of stuff like that

No I hated to contact them cause it’s an hour and a half drive from my house and it was already looked super rough when I got it back, and I just realized it taking it apart today that they had several bolts in wrong places and stripped a bolt hole out in the frame

It sucks having to deal with this stuff for sure. If it was me, I'd go talk to the guy in charge, in person (too easy to blow you off over the phone), and politely list out the issues and ask them to make it right.

How they respond will tell you whether this is an isolated incident, and whether they are deserving of any future business. If they make it right by you, then you may be doing the next guy a favor by addressing the issue. A decent business owner would want to know when their employees are doing shoddy work so they can fix it.

If they won't make it right, I'd be done with them for good, and I wouldn't be shy about sharing my opinion.

You need to call them back. They should not be getting away with shoddy work. I am not super anal about my bikes but I expect my shit to come back in the same condition I left it in.

So you have to suck it up..

You know where not to take your bike next time.

If i was you i would ring the guy and send him pictures, even if you dont want to deal with it, he will want to.

You might get credit for parts, you might get nothing, but if you do nothing, you wont know.

It used to piss me off to get a bike back and some of the trick 6mm screws with the 8mm heads had been replaced with the normal hardware store type bolts with the 10mm heads.

I was told by one shop that they were sorry they misplaced my screws, and that they didn't stock them.

I told the guy that I could get all I needed off that new CR125 sitting on the showroom floor.

He ordered me some.

I once had a street bike that needed a broken transmission gear replaced under warranty. When I got the bike back it had been butchered so badly that I had to take the entire thing apart and repair it properly myself. I made a list of the things that were either broken, damaged or assembled wrong. The list had 27 items on it. It was a Honda and instead of taking it back to the dealer, I called Honda customer care and explained the situation to them. I told them that I refused to take the bike back to the dealer and asked them instead to supply me with the parts I needed to repair it right and I would do the work. They agreed. I sent them a parts list and they sent me the parts.

The reason it's so hard to get stuff fixed right is because mechanics are almost always paid on flat rate commission. The valve spring job on your bike "pays" just over two and a half hours of labor. That's how much time the mechanic gets paid to do the job. If he can do it in less than that, he makes more money. If it takes him longer, he "loses" money. It ends up being an incentive for guys to do fast, sloppy work. Try to find a dealer that pays their mechanics salary instead of commission. They're rare, but they exist. They're usually the ones with really good reputations.

Mine came back same day, but with rvt oozing out around the original gasket. I contacted them and they said they followed the service bulletin.

I’m waiting on a new gasket to show up and I’ll be going over everything. I probably should have just started disassembling the same day..
