Okay, I know it's a long shot, but if Reed was to win the SX championship, would that asterisk finally be removed from the minds of everyone as far as him not being able to win over the years, unless the top guys (RC and JS) were out.

Agree with OSHOW the * was invented by nut huggers that cant stand the fact that their favorite rider could not stay healty for a season or could not get through Pre season injury free.

A season consists of 17 rounds for SX and 12 for MX, the rider the enters and finishes all the rounds with the most points is the champion no questions asked.

People will find one, "because a rider messed up villopoto and cause in to DNQ" "because Stewart DNF'd" there are probably a thousand more people will think of. But like they say you cant luck into a championship but you can sure luck out of one

I guess Chad is starting to get a whole trophy room full of *. Hell, he probably had to add on to his trophy room to hold all those *.

450 MX

Plus, gotta get one for each of his wins (that's about 50 isn't it counting MX and SX). And his Daytona wins must be elephant sized *.

What's one guy gonna do with all those...start his own universe?

An asterisks should only be awarded to a rider when the AMA counts the points wrong and illegitimately crowns someone champion. part of winning a title is minimizing damage on your bad nights - i don't see why this is so difficult to understand.

more points = champion.

simple as 2+2 = 4

Poor Chad. He's had some tough competition over the years, if it wasn't for a RC and Stewart we'd be calling him the GOAT. He's beaten most of the other guys by 20 seconds for years now.

But I agree with the original post, you can deny the '*' all you want and i agree its a silly term but there is something to it. Reed may have titles but he knows he's never beaten Stewart for a full series. No champion wants to win like that. I think it would be a huge monkey of Reed's back if he pulled it off this year.
