Boring Racing

Is it just me, or does the racing simply seem boring? Compared to the days of James, RC, and CR with technical tracks. Tracks these days seem one lined. Last night I watched more riders simply pull over on a pass and not fight. What happened to trying and fighting for your spot? Osborne, Barcia, Webb, these guys FIGHT for every inch. Kinda bums me out.

Certainly wasn't boring if you're an Osborne fan.

I thought Sunday's track was a bit one lined, but given it was the first race back I think the track crew and feld wanted something that would be rideable and build off that. Last night's was pretty fun primarily because in both classes good guys got bad starts so we got to watch people get passed. Overall I'm stoked we get to watch supercross again and am hopeful things will continue to improve as the rounds go on.

Wasn't boring last night! Maybe I'm weird, but my heart rate goes up once the gate drops. I'm a fan of racing and dirtbikes. I couldn't care less about fans, gear/graphics coordination, track conditions and commentary.

This has got to be the best 3.5 weeks ever!!!

I didn't think last night was boring. I thought the track seemed much better than Sunday and overall it was pretty exciting. People often forget that when RC dominated, that got old too. I remember from working at the Nationals, that in the 2nd moto if he got the holeshot, people would start packing up and leaving. I can understand the argument of the tracks now, compared to 10-20 years ago, but it is what it is. Bikes are different now and everything has evolved a bit, since then. I still think on most days, the racing today is pretty decent, but just my opinion..

They need to not build the track with the start running down the middle. Do a short start to mix it up.

Step into my time machine.... let's go back 60 days. ****BWOOOP****

Look at this comment from a user today on April 4th, 2020....

"Man....I'm dying for some racing....I sure hope we'll be able to finish out the season but it looks like this year is finished Sad ".

I thought last nights race was great. It had suspense up until the last lap. I half expected ET to quad the jump that he was landing into the face of, but never did.

Go look at the track maps, you're gonna love next week! There's a few that are exactly what you're talking about.

I thought last night's racing was excellent. Even in the 250s...the man in red RODE HIS ASS off like he needed to after that crash.

In the 450s...are you kidding? It was a race all the way to the end...a REAL race (Would've been WAY happier with Zacho ON-TOP of the Box!)...but...damn...

Cooper WON.
Eli came from waaaaaaay back.
ZachO held on for quite a while.
DeanO rode pretty damn well, too!

So, uh...yeah...

It was an excellent night of racing and I'd like to give a shout out to "The Month Long Residents of SLC" that're making it happen.

I was thinking just the opposite. Boring racing to me is one lined with no passing (a lot of 90 degree turns). But the good thing about these tight SLC tracks is they have a lot of 180 turns which creates more passing opportunities. It may be boring to you, but we've seen a ton of passing the last couple races. This is much better than one lined boat races we often see.

Possibly, it just feels like the grit is no longer there. The tracks need to be slowed down and more technical. Also I agree with the post above. The 450’s these days are simply too much for SX. I’m a firm believer they should all run 250f’s and make the tiddler class more stock based and then have the factory effort. Although that will never happen with the manufacturers standing to loose so much in revenue.

Could not have said that any better myself.

I will say that my heart rate was up for the 450 main for sure. Great racing.

The only caveat I have with this is the east coast is SHALLOW. Yes, Sexton rode his tail off, watching Peters 2 bike lengths ahead of him over the finish line looking over, and then simply stands up and basically rolled out the red carpet for Sexton to pass was baffling to me. With only 5 riders with a realistic shot at hitting the podium, it was not difficult to realize Chase would get up and finish just off of the box. But, fun to watch him push and be pissed after the race. I am excited to see him move up. We need more like him in the 450 class

Your observation of not seeing grit or aggressive racing could be due to the elevation. Fighting and bar banging means increased heart rate and much more energy burned. It's possible the riders are solely focused on being consistent, smooth, and trying to make it to the finish line without running out of gas and dropping like an anchor.

Hard to be aggressive on a slippery track like in SLC. Look at how it worked out for Chase. Same with Tomac making mistakes at the end of the main while trying to catch Webb. The traction isn’t there.

I see the “slow down and make more technical” posts a lot. How exactly do you make this happen?

Add a bunch of one line s turns to slow it down?
Make sections only part of the length of the stadium, and watch people jump the whole section?
Add wall jumps to every section and everyone bitches?
Make short super peaked out jumps and watch people jump 6 or 7 into and hope they don’t die when they case?
Bring back the huge steep step ups of the 90s early 00s?

Tomac over jumped into the face of that last roller....could have been ugly but thank god for factory suspension.

I was more specifically talking about his mistakes pushing it in the slippery corners, but yes, that could have been ugly.

Me too, he and others easily could have but the right handed hairpin after the jump was too tight to be able to jump the quad and still make the turn

And Mookie! Was pumped to see him and Dean up there. I enjoyed it last night for sure.

Saw him experiment with that all night. Could have sworn he OJ'ed a couple times on purpose to slow down for that tight turn instead of using the brakes Dizzy

Yes, steepen the jumps longer rhythms sections, long whoop sections like last night, 180 degree turns. Stay away from rollers, 90’s, one lined rhythms.

On a side note, I think they should do away with lit pro technology. I understand mapping bikes, monitoring rpms etc. However, taking away the game of figuring out the track and rhythms is no longer present. Look at tracks in the past. Riders had to actually practice different lines. These days it’s rolled over and smooth with bikes that are incredibly fast.
