I bought my son one for Christmas in the bundle sale they had, as it was basically free. Looks good, but we haven't tried it. He liked the fit, that is all I can say. He wears a 6D. I would love some more opinions.
I learned the hard way helmets are not something to skimp on. Kills me to see a someone walk in and buy an 8000+ 450F then walk over and pick out the cheapest helmet on the rack!

Yeah helmets are one of the main things to look at when buying protection. I have a fox v2 I love it but I just wonder how the alias helmets are. Also neck braces are a must in my opinion. Don't know how many times I've actually landed head first and my neck brace has saved me from breaking my neck. I have a scare on the bottom of my jaw from the neck brace but way better then breaking the neck thanks

I believe there was a little sarcasm in his post, noting how someone can drop a ton of money on a bike, but can't justify spending extra on a decent helmet.

You might not have $700 for a helmet but if you have money to ride motocross, you have $300 to spend on a leftover Shoei VFX-W which is one of the only 4 or 5 helmets you should ever put on your head.

+1

I could afford a 700$ but spend 150 - 300 on 3 Bell Moto 9 from previous Years.
Paid in total maybe 700$ but do have 3 1st class helmets now.

Oh sorry only 2 left, one had a bad crash with me in it.
I was ok the Helmet not so much.

IMO the least you can do is buy a left over Fox V3 or Fly F2 with MIPS. You can find them dirt cheap in the clearance section on BTO, Motosport, Rockymountain, Ect.

If you can afford to ride a dirt bike, you can afford $500 to protect your head. If you cant, you probably cant afford the medical bills that will come in a bad crash. Probably the same riders that dont insure a $8000 mx bike also.

Yes, but it also can be read in a condescending way to the guy that has saved a long time to get a new bike but does not yet have the money for a top shelf helmet.
Personally I want to see the best safety equipment I can afford on my son and have sacrificed other items to do so but some folks don't have that option. When my son was younger and I was responsible for buying his gear, it would have killed me if he got an injury and I had to wonder if I could have prevented it by having better gear.
This is a dangerous sport, it's not if you crash, it's when you crash.
Having said that, I agree that it kills me to see someone that can afford the best gear and chooses the cheap stuff to save a buck.

While we're on this subject, how many years do you guys run a helmet that has not been in any significant tumbles?

Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to keep a helmet for five years, but that's how long I would if I could.

How about instead of bitching about how you should only buy $700 helmets in every single helmet thread that comes up, someone just answer the kids question about the Alias helmet?

Just my 2 cents, and i bet some of the ones not buying good helmets are at casinos, smoking. Drinking etc. Sorry lil johnny you got this $100 lid. I used your money for other habits, lol

I told him what I could, it fits nice. I have actually have one in hand...

The second part of my statement was about people buying bikes and going over and asking FOR THE CHEAPEST helmet on the rack. Seen it to many times.

Had a friend call me on Christmas eve and wanted to know if I had an "old" helmet laying that "might" fit her kid as they bought him a bike for Christmas. I told her no and carry him to the local shop and get him fitted in a proper helmet for his age.

This happens all too often, I worked in dealers for years...It was my job to educate customers as an employee, my sales skills and product knowledge went far, but you know the old saying "You can lead a horse to water.."

This has to be one of the most ignorant arguments I've ever read. I don't know very many people that drop 8 k on a brand new bike. Most finance it with 0 down and payments of $100 to $150 a month. And people act like there has been some quantifiable drop in injuries with the introduction of leatt braces and 6d helmets and I haven't seen any such overall numbers. My current helmet is a shoei but I've raced with a $100 thor helmet just the same and it protected my head just fine. I'm no pro but I have decent b class speed and have crashed plenty hard. Some people just enjoy riding and do it to the best of their ability and there is nothing wrong with that. I've been riding for most of my life and my family has a history of racing back into the 60's and 70's where my uncle a Fred raced pro flat track. And if I need a new helmet next week to ride and don't have $500 for another shoei I'll buy whatever I can afford and enjoy riding.

I'm just saying that instead of buying the best of the best bike, people should take the cost of a good helmet into consideration. You never got hurt? Good for you. Heck, I wouldn't even care if you wore a plastic bag. Your life, your choice, but don't say nobody warned you when you split your head in half.

Regarding the alias helmet could the only guy who has it in this thread remove the liners and see if theres a manufacturer, or material sticker stuck to the eps on the inside? that would help those interested on the helmet.
