So why don't our local districts release a members list with their District number on it? The reason I ask is that my son is saying he wants to race and that he wants a certain number. My local district will do their best to give him a number close , but wont tell me if its available. That being said the people who run D17 are awesome people. I am not complaining as I knew how they did it before I asked them, but my son asked if I would ask. So why dont't they? Do other districts? lmk Thanks Stay Healthy Vitards
Would be nice if there was a rider/race number list!
Locally, riders have until March 15th to keep their past years number. After that you request two or three options.
Reason districts may not post a listing - It's a moving target. Every day riders register either with the district or at the track, and the available number list changes.
Best case is to either email or call the accountable person for district registration and ask questions.

the only list we send out is to the clubs and tracks so they don't sign a rider up who is signed up
think about this as well. there are what over 30 classes. all with 10-999 for number issuance. this list is in a date base set up, which posting it online what number is or isn't used would be a night mare to update. along with that calling and asking for who has what number or what is available isn't a great plan as we actually do other jobs.
secondly some places use last three digits of the AMA number but this system has been around since 1974. our system does not.
also numbers are saved for riders who had them the year before. that date is usually april but normally if you have a number, you won't lose it if you stay in that class.
single digits are earned. not many riders will ride with earned numbers but 1-9 is earned from last year.
so what has worked for a very very long time, is riders ask for a specific number, and she does a pretty solid job of issuing it if it's not already taken.
number organization seems mundane, but just how many "22'''s or 23's, 7's 199's the requests for those numbers are huge. If it was open season, not sure how many ''slashes" a track could use in a C class with 5-7 of the same numbers in the class.
lastly. i come to this post board a few times a month, d17 has a face book page and there is also email to any and every director including mine for these kind of questions. we are happy to help in anyway we can.
I wasn't aware that there was personal info that would be given out. I think you all do a great job at both MEGA locations and it is always a pleasure to ride with all of you. It was more of a curiosity thing than anything else. Hopefully we will see ya at a track soon.
I didn't even know that district were even assigning numbers anymore. I don't think they have done that here in the Southeast in the last 30 years.
You show up and sign up.if somebody else already has your number, you get the tape out and slash or add a 1, or make a 1 into a 7 or a 4.
Switch your number for future races and once it is consistently yours, then you get your custom backgrounds.
justmx..............we have assigned numbers for a long time but then there has only been 2 people who have done that job since the middle 80's.
number assignments keep things organized. i can't imagine how many 22's, 199's, 7's etc. and only so many slashes, x's etc make it hard to score.
we have equally as many tracks scoring by hand then transponders. So numbers still kinda matter around here.
mike ask me about the list and stuff in person i can give you specifics. thanks.
