Wasn't much of a story explaining why, but truly a bummer!

Well.....there is a big threat of being closed. But I don't think they are officially closed yet.
There was a meeting tonight at 7pm at town hall: http://acemotocross.com/

What are the specifics on why the track's facing closure?

The people around the track were complaining about the noise and the dust. Walden motocross had the same thing happen last year. We are located 5 miles from Ace. We had to move are race and practice days to Sat. Only 4 Sunday events aloud now. And we cant go over a certain amount of event in the year.

Not a clue. Ever since I moved to DE, it's been awhile since I've been to Ace. Probably 07 I think? IDK I kind of been out of touch with that area lately. I gotta up there one of these days!

If it was noise related I'd appreciate it if someone could add it to the list.

http://www.soundoffmc.com/forum1/viewforum.php?f=8

Fortunately we've not had to add any to the list since last June.

There are 3 tracks in the town (Ace, AK Farms and Walden), and basically, the town really wants to shut them all down.

The future does not look good for any of them. It is the whole NIMBA (not in my back yard) thing with residents who have moved to the area over the last 15 years.

Two of these tracks are clubs and have very, very deep history (with each of them hosting races every year and going all the way back to the 1950's).

The location of the tracks are about 1 hour and 30 minutes north of New York City, and they are (or were) part of AMA District 34 and the MSC. In the flush years, the tracks got really good rider turn outs, sometimes well over 500-600 riders, which shows the health of the sport in the area (or a lack of alternatives, take your pick which it is)

What is tragic is that these are some of the closest tracks to the major population base on metro new york, and when they are gone, they are gone. The likelihood of new tracks within a reasonable driving distance for many residents is slim.

Losing tracks and clubs like this is terrible for the sport, and does not help to bring in new, younger riders.

I will let someone with more knowledge of the matter chime in, but from what i hear it is not a rosy future, and i suspect the towns will keep pushing, even if it takes another few years. In other words, it wont be getting any easier for them.

Here's a link to the article

This quote implies it is noise related - "I don't want to say poor, poor, pitiful me, but it seems like anyone's noise is acceptable but mine."

hey Slater, i am with you on all those points, but calling out the judge and the neighbors like that isn't going to get anything accomplished, except piss the judge off - which wont help the cause.

I doubt the anyone involved on the other side reads this forum, but you never know....

We at Walden playboys thought we were grandfathered in. But the town came after us. We are located just down the road from ace and ak farms. We worked with the town and moved are races to Sat so there would not be noise on Sunday. The thing with ak farms being on the same property as Ace is that the last owner of the track worked out a deal with the town. The new owner only has about 6 or 5 years left i think to run that track. He can only hold certain number of events etc. After his time is up it is up from what i have heard.

this dude is the owner of the property his mom passed it down to him
Johnnny Coen leased diamond back form Kolmoski Coen had a time limit
This guy owns both tracks and ace is a private club which leases it off komolski how ever you spell his name.

Walden is and was grandfathered in, just that someone tried playing hard ball with the town.

You ever think about having no noise period? Maybe everyone who rides or races has to have a offroad silencer. Maybe instead of blaming, you should try it and see what happens when there is no noise for them to complain about.

When are we going to police ourselves on the sound issue? The bikes make plenty of useable power to allow for good racing/riding with much quieter exhaust. Everyone blames it on the AMA and or the manufacturers when we should just demand it /do it!

This would really suck. It's not the greatest track, but, it's been around forever, and it's one of the few tracks I have without driving 2 hours.

I hate living in this area anymore. It is nothing like it was when I grew up, and a far, far, cry from when my family moved here 40 years ago. I need to move away from all BS like my parents did when they moved here to get away to the country!

Urban sprawl... house farms popping up where there used to be farms and vacant land... actually I am suprised that many of them are outside and away from their TV's or computers enough to notice any dust or noise! Wink -

Never, because it's everyone elses fault. Greenies, judges, home owners, and oh, forgot now they added in it's all about money. So really, I say never, because stupidity rules this sport.

Really? What part of this track getting closed wasn't about noise in the article?

I keep getting told fixing noise won't help anything, but then I keep seeing with my own eyes that noise is the reason for everything posted here about track closings.

I totally understand what you are saying. But here's the deal. people can have all kinds of reasons to want something done. But in all instances, there has to be a "in" or "problem" that let's them go forward. So again, the noise issue is going to be the "reason" these land developers etc can win. Remember, this went infront of a supreme court. A judge would have to have 1 of 2 reasons to close a motocross track like he did. 1. Because of noise. 2. Because of imminent domain. Although these people weren't even trying for that.

I am not debating that noise is not an issue but its not the only issue in this case it is a scape goat to the main issue
when KTM make that electric bike the same price as a reugular bike we will not be having this conversation it will be about errosion

Tell me on private property inwhich this track stands. How a court would look at what you just said. 1. Erosion 2. Sound. Which would the court close a track over? To close a track, even if someone wants your land, you have to present a reason that is valid to a court.
