Good looking ride to start, please don't powdercoat the frame black.
If it can't be fixed with a hammer, it's an electrical problem.

I don't know why more people don't powder coat them blue like the old steel frames.

Sitting here with a box of old parts. She seems solid for the most part, a little tired, but nothing you wouldn't expect on an 11 year old bike bought off craigslist. Here's some more of the bike before teardown:

Cylinder is getting replated right now, we should have that back fairly soon actually. Might as well make the thing a ripper and get some porting, completely new internals with a head mod to follow. We need some new shoes for dancing, so we gotta build some bitchin' wheels. Also, completely rebuilt and properly setup suspension. A few of those parts may or may not be on their way to Japan as we speak... Plans for the frame and swingarm too, should have more on that this week. This bike is going in a magazine and is being built by myself and a shop I work for. I can't release every detail just yet, but I will update you guys as we go, with what I can before the magazine makes it public. We're going for something a little bit different, should be a cool little bike. I'm doing some ceramic coatings on some parts tomorrow. I might be able to post that as I go, just depends on how busy I get.

Frame is on it's way to San Diego Powder as we speak. I think you'll appreciate the result

Swing arm looks awesome, digging the color on the cerakote also can't wait to see it start coming together

Awesome thus far - Congrats! Blue on the frame, a la the 2004 Japan early edition?
Thanks, boys. Little more progress to share. My OCD ass ended up re-bead blasting some parts and coating them different colors when I had gaps at the shop. But nonetheless, all the Cerakote parts going on this bike are officially done:
Also, we got the swingarm back. Turned out pretty sharp. Gonna be a bummer if we have to put graphics over it, but if we do I'll see if they can at least do a clear backing. Here's how that turned out:
Should have the frame back early this week. I'm interested to see how that blue turned out. Once we have that back, we can start actually building this thing up and making it look like a bike again. That's it for this week though!

Thanks guys. We're getting antsy to start spinning some wrenches. Just busy spinning wrenches on other people's stuff this week haha.
And yeah, San Diego Powdercoat knocked it out of the park on this! They do a lot of frames, and are moto people themselves so they know what they're doing on this sort of application.

Got the motor back from Brent 'China' Myron, AKA the Factory Spanner located in Temecula, CA. I am dying to hear this thing bark. Thinking it should look pretty good sitting in the blue frame.

Six sprocket bolts, and not a single one torqued. Clearly, previous owner does not cruise Vital.
Surprisingly, all sprocket bolt holes were actually intact. I thought they would be elongated for sure, however I can pull the rear hub bearings out by hand. YZ/YZF owners, if your stock wheels have some time on them, I would inspect this. It's a loose bearing tolerance with soft cast aluminum, and even the front has its own issues with premature bearing corrosion from these bikes still somehow coming stock with non-sealed bearings in the front hub.
Anyway, the rear hub is toast, and the spokes are all corroded. What's a guy to do?
FasterUSA hubs in a dark bronze/mag color, Bulldog spokes and nipples all laced to Excel Takasago rims with a 19x2.15 on the rear instead of the stock 19x1.85.

would you mind revealing the Ceracote color used on your misc parts - specifically the bronze-ish color?
thanks
PS - i like that PC blue. I had my suspension parts for a Chevy Avalanche I had a few years back done in that color. It was actually a 3-step powdercoat - primer layer, followed by "chrome", then topped with a transparent candy blue. Pictures don't do it justice, it's gorgeous in person. This is gonna be a great looking bike!!
