We did majority of it in the blast cabinet when it was still put together, before anything was split, and then when it was rebuilt we just used a scotch brite pad on a couple of the trickier areas. You can absolutely abrasive blast the engine, but definitely tape and plug everything off first.

Thanks man, having a Cerakote setup definitely comes in handy. The blast cabinet alone you'll find yourself using constantly. You can mess around with different materials to achieve different finishes. You can even get away with blasting rubber hoses clean if you're careful enough with a fine grit haha
Is your blast cabinet mostly dedicated for 320grit bead; or do you actually go through the process of swapping different medias in/out of the cabinet? For example, earlier you mentioned blasting with "an abrasive", then followed it up with the fine 320grit. Not sure how much of a total pain in the ass switching medias like that would be? Also - given how versatile the fine bead media can be, are there any applications where soda blasting would still be the ideal approach?? Maybe on things like the brass in the carb and other soft metals??

Top, top notch work. Inspiring stuff.

I should have clarified, but yes so we have two cabinets. One dedicated abrasive, and the other with the fine grit.

On the bead vs the soda blasting, I really don't see the need for soda blasting in most situations. I'm sure there are plenty of instances where that would be the ideal process and it would hold benefits over blasting dry, we've just found it unnecessary. For example the brass pieces you see on the carb in the clean up photos were lightly blasted with the fine grit.

Thank you, and the guys above you for the kind words!

Good GOD that is amazing. Thanks again for the tip on the fork protector guides, Mike @ Exxtreme MX hooked it up.

I'd be afraid to ride that thing. My bikes are clean as hell but I need to be able to cartwheel them down the track!

Lovely looking bike, been following this since the beginning and glad it turned out so well.

Why red on the hubs, did you consider blue to go with frame???

amazing. the best yz ive seen. love the blue frame. love the grey in the graphics, so much better than white. only thing i would change is hubs. id go blue hubs to match nipples, or maybe gold/mag to match forks. beautiful nonetheless

Thank you guys very much for the feedback! The hub color is kind of deceiving at certain angles, but they aren't red. They're a ridiculously deep bronze that we figured out our anodizer can do. I suppose it's a color you're either a fan of or you're not. We wanted to do something unique and not so cookie cutter, as this is the first project bike that we've actually done.

The blue frame was actually what made us not go blue on the hubs, we were paranoid there would be too much blue/loud color. The hubs are still loud, just in a more subtle way. We've surprisingly already sold quite a few sets requested with that bronze haha

Wow man, the final result is just stunning! Did you say something about using a sealer on the aluminum parts after media blasting? If so, what product/sealer should be used?? Again, incredible work!!

This thing turned heads at the track, that frame is even better in person! Handles amazing as well! Faster USA did an amazing job, can’t wait to get some wheels built by them.

On down the road a piece when you guys have some hours on the bike it would be sweet to see how that bike ran with a Lectron on it. We did that to our new YZ's and they're little screamers.

Sorry to revive an old thread. This is my favorite build ever, i just built s pretty trick crf 250r and a yz125 is next. I want to do the same frame color do you happen to know the color code/name for it? looks like a sort of illusion blue but now a days they made 1000 different blues. Thanks alot and congratulations on the nicest yamaha ever and my favorite build to date!
