Sweatshop Added a reply to Info about engine tuning stages.

Ok, fair point. Maybe that’s more company specific. But to get clarify my question, what differs an AMA race engine to a B class amateur engine? Im just interested on what’s done with them, and how far they take it.

Im wondering about all these different tuning stages, stage 1, 2 and so on. Do anyone know what all these stages actually involve? What is commonly done to increase performance in mx engines? Higher compression, head porting, cams, stronger rod and maybe balancing? Im quite knowledgeable in automotive performance engines but not single cylinder, and I would like to know...

I've had about five cortisone shots in my wrist. First one was absolute magic, the second one was good, the third one mediocre and the last two were completely useless. Im now in some form of a study/trial with PRP-injections and I've had two so far with little to no recognizable effect other than the horrible pain during the injections.

As I previously said. Make a Y-connector to fit the capacitor under the seat, and wire in a switch. I run 60W LED, so 4-5 Amps and need to switch it off to start.

The biggest problem I've seen is the residue and pump inconcistency. Redline's SI-Alcohol and Quickfuel measuring glass can make magic.

Y-harness to the capacitor under the seat works well. Wire in a fuse. I have a 60W LED light with about 1 billion Lumen on a 250F and that is cutting it close. It's a flickering a bit at idle and it doesn't start cold (winter). But once hot there's no problem.

If it stays the same (while revving), your sensor is broken or unplugged. The air pressure sensor is connected to your intake to measure intake pressure which will be lower than atmospheric with the engine running. To calculate charge density the ecu needs very accurate pressure and temperature readings.

Did you check that the air pressure sensor reacts? Either start the bike with the tuner plugged in or use a plastic syringe.

Bedding in rings, which is what this is all about is in theory quite complex, but in practice pretty straight forward. The surface of the rings and bores is microscopicly rough and need to be worn. In order to make them wear you need the rings to push against the bores, so you need gas pressure. The theoretically correct way...

I just wanted to share my experience as a Yamaha mechanic who rides a 2014 YZ250F. Sorry for a long post. Obviosly there's not many dirt bikes that come through our shop. I've had two new generation dirt bikes and one of them had no valve clearance (a lot of sand in the airbox) and one with a broken killswitch...
