Info about engine tuning stages.

Im wondering about all these different tuning stages, stage 1, 2 and so on.
Do anyone know what all these stages actually involve? What is commonly done to increase performance in mx engines?

Higher compression, head porting, cams, stronger rod and maybe balancing?
Im quite knowledgeable in automotive performance engines but not single cylinder, and I would like to know more, and maybe even doing it myself.

Personally i dont refer to anything as “stage x” unless thats specifically what a certain company calls a product. For example hotcams has different “stage” cams that do different things to the power curve. Tokyo mods i believe calls different engine mod packages “stage x” but i dont think its some kind of industry standard.

Other than that you typically call it what it is. Hc piston, port polish, bigger diameter valves, etc...

Ok, fair point. Maybe that’s more company specific. But to get clarify my question, what differs an AMA race engine to a B class amateur engine? Im just interested on what’s done with them, and how far they take it.

There is no such thing as a stage. That term is marketing hyperbole. Amateurs can and do run all sorts of different mods that pros sometimes do not.

Thanks for the input.
But naming aside then, what’s commonly done? Is it only porting skills for example that sets tuners apart from eachother?
