It's hard to say I've seen more than enough issues since 2014 that I can no longer say the yzf is the reliable bike. My shop has color shifts every few years, but for a LONG time people said all I liked or knew were yz's..and in the local area people thought I was partial to them. I was - if you wanted the most reliable bike go get a yzf and dont ever need to see me unless you want mods. Not true since 14 now they think we all do are ktms.... How ironic. The bigger issue is...

Finger followers are far superior.... It's not even close at this point quite honestly. Yamaha already used the technology in their R1 - along with practically everyone in that segment. KTM has been using it for a long time now in moto with excellent success. It's lighter, allows far more ramp rate, creates a leverage ratio if desired..far stronger and realistically it's very simple. The follower axles are a non issue - zero wear observed for years now. It's so non critical it's hardly even lubricated. The width is up to the designer. You can even taper the width to...

Anyone else taking there bike up some mountains of sand? Last weekend was perfect weather with a couple inches of rain on Friday night, and high temps in the low 70's on Saturday and Sunday! ?

All my opinion of course... Why people think factory suspension has any "amazing advancement" outside of production alludes me. It never has and won't in our last 15 years. Shy of different damping techniques - which can be implemented into any suspension, what separates factory stuff is the time behind it - and MORE SO the chassis work. I mean if there was some mythical technology that was hugely superior - and aftermarket WOULD SELL IT. This is a business after all. Bones said 25 percent of what you feel is the suspension, 75 percent is the chassis - which...

So get ready for some really great racing as everyone except AC was just bumped up a notch and has hope for a AC mishap. I am only a recent fan and follower of the MXGP series but I really am hooked. These guys rip and are excellent racers as well.

I'm not so certain the ktm.husky frames aren't as rigid - I believe that's more hearsay now days. The 2019 models certainly didn't get good feedback in testing vs 18 I'd say ktm/husky purely because of the weight. Weight Cost HUGE dollars to loose Power is easy on a 450 - they all have plenty Suspension cost you the same on all brands to get done Then it comes down to price and contingency - support. 250 wise it's a total wash. To be competitive - you have to spend huge bucks, period. By time you go racing - it's...

manufacturers probably build in big safety margins when it comes to changing the ignition and fuel curves so that the user cant damage the engine by running a too lean fuel map or a too advanced ignition map , so you are limited with how much you can change , your standard handlebar map switch gives you a basic mellow...

longer narrower radiators are a good sign it means they can make the shroud area narrower especially if they reshape the gas tank a little . hopefully they put their R&D money into lightweight parts and suspension and not into electronics ''no need for fuel&ignition map changing via phone app'' .

- keep making the bike lighter (while maintaining current durability ) - slimmer shrouds (taller narrower radiators and reshaped gas tank could allow this) - fix the mid pipe burning the plastic issue - go back to the pre2015 aggressive front brake - wouldn't say no to 48mm AER cone valve forks Smile
I would think alta would want to enter racing in the supercross 250 class , where the instant torque/traction of an electric bike would be and advantage on a tight corner filled track . Instead of going head to head with factory 250's on wide open outdoor tracks where the battery tech for that kind of power might not be...

if yamaha follow the same production plan as honda you should see the 2018 yz450f updates on the 2019 yz250f , just like we will probably see the 2018 crf250 have the 2017 crf450 updates .

You got very good answers from the guys above i would say get a 350 if : You are a light rider , out of shape , begginer rider to intermediate, like to ride a bike high in the rev range . " the 350 power feels closer to a two stroke than a 450 and might make you FEEL...
