To bring it back to the original topic a bit, I think Steve had him on because 1) it's the biggest story of the year thus far in MX/SX, and 2) Mirtl asked. I think Steve came across as exactly like he said, a friend, which is right in character for Steve. Like it or not, he comes across to me as loyal to friends, but honest in his assessment of the situation. He sounded to me exactly like that--a friend talking to a friend in a difficult situation. I don't see what issue people have with Steve's handling of this. He said Mirtl texted and asked to be on the show, it's a huge news topic, Steve was very open about the fact that Mirtl's his friend, and then Mirtl's demeanor didn't really allow him to dig much deeper. Once Mirtl was off the phone Steve said the facts so far don't look good, but Mirtl's innocent until proven otherwise. Seems to me that's about all you can do.

What makes this even worse is it was during QUALIFYING! Riders look up at the screen and see their lap times. Can you imagine if it had been Jett? This place would go nuclear. Many blowing it off now would be saying it was the biggest crime of the century. Whoever won the title would be illegitimate. People….the series leader just got taken out of the championship. It’s a big deal.

I totally disagree. That is zero percent Jo’s fault and 100% the mechanics’s fault. That is part of the track. The rider has every right to be there. Regardless of whether is was totally unintentional or not….a mechanic fucked up the championship run of another team’s rider. With all of the work, money, and effort that go into trying to win a championship…..this was really unfortunate. Jo has never been in as good of a position for a championship run.

Dude has failed to qualify for the Main more times than he's qualified. He ain't a fucking title threat. People just be looking for something to get outraged about.
