I did this race a few years ago with some friends and loved it. A couple of things I learned from this event: Racing at night is cool! I can't explain it, but to the man, everyone who got on the bike at night said they wanted to do a night race again. It always seems crazy hot down there...

Nice analogy, from what I've seen of lommel it's very much like an off road race in the sand late in the day, but with jumps instead of palmetto roots. Until I ride every public and private track in the hundreds of thousands of square miles of the US covered by sand, I can't really say that. Of course, neither...

Funny...Dungey lives and trains in the sand, and some of his best performances have been on sand tracks. Just because we don't have a sand track in the national circuit anymore as rough as lommel doesn't mean we don't have them here in the states. Gotcha, didn't know he broke his foot on that, which would help explain why he continued to loose time to Dungey after that. Unless Dungey was riding a extremely wide bike prior, I wouldn't have described him as as "holding up Desalle". My point was, less than 2 seconds is not really a comfortable gap. Nevertheless, AC seemed in control...

Yes it is funny how things are seen differently. Cairoli finished with just a 1.6 second gap on Reed, and it never really got much much bigger during the race. It seemed like at various points of the race Reed could close the gap at will, but like you said, couldn't make the pass, kinda like the year Reed beat...
