It all boiled down to why waste money on him for an almost sold out event with no time to promote or market him for it. If they liked him that could havr changed things. But there was no upside into paying him hundreds of thousands of dollars to race when they couldn’t make it back. Well aside from not being dragged through the mud by the Deegan camp and Cooksey putting a spin on it as thrm blacklisting him. Apparently not flushing money down the toilet on a rider racing is blacklisting now.

Did you even read the story? The Lawrence boys didnt think he was worth his starting fee for an event that was basically already sold out. With no time to market him or anything. It was financially stupid to sign him up to race. The event sells out regardless of him. So why flush money dosn the toilet on an appearance fee for Deegan? Paying him to race cuts into profits which is where they make their money for the event.

I'm glad the Lawrence camp was open about that. I suspected all along it was a response to Deegan's unseemly use of the Mr America schtick as an attempt to turn the fans against the Lawrences.

I would say becoming partners in a lucrative ongoing supercross event is more of a win than losing out on $100,000 payday due to your shitty behavior in the past.

The notion that he needed the surgery done quickly or it would impact his 25 season was a lie from the get go and it was an obvious lie to anyone with a little medical knowledge. The fact that he was ready to ride by now is entirely predictable and not some pleasant surprise.

Deegan showing up to race an exhibition race for a $100,000 paycheck is not racing for his country. Racing MXON is racing for your country.

Great read. One thing the Deegans should take away from this is that it’s better to have friends out there than constantly trying to make everyone your enemy.

Love it.... Deegan leaks the story because he got his feelings hurt and in the end the real story was the Lawrence's made a wise business decision. There was nothing to be gained from the business side by having Deegan there and it would have decreased their take on the back end. Add in the personal drama, and nobody is signing off on that deal. Meanwhile it makes even more of a mockery of the Deegan MXON excuses.

Good example that it’s 6 years ago now and what have he done since then?, more than fucking up his own races creating drama on track with different riders?. Him being a past champion almost makes it more sad when you see what he has become as a racer since then.

I don’t think that the promoters would pay anyone else if they only have 3K tickets to sell. Sounds like Deegan’s agents could have locked in a solid payday if they’d agreed to the race a few months back, but they waited too long to have any leverage. The Lawrences made their deal, as well as Webb, and that was really all the promoters needed to practically sell out the event. I don’t know, but I doubt that the Deegan camp was as salty as Kooksey made it out to be, he needs clickbait titles and manufactured drama to try...

The funny thing about all of this is that a lot of people say the riders only have X amount of years to make their money, which is accurate. The Lawrences make a wise long-term business move and it's outrage. If the shoe was on the other foot, a lot of people would be praising and saying the Deegans are smart business people. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
