If you start crying about new technology then what about all of the development on the new gas bikes traction control, auto clutch, slipper clutch, different mapping, race fuel and the list goes on? The Alta is not any faster than a 450 (its actually slower) it just has a different power delivery which you need to learn. No one pass me on the uphill and I didn’t pass anyone it just ran even with any other bikes. The Alta was in the front wave, right with the other guys in each moto start. I owned a Stealth Electric bike (before buying an Alta). The rear-handing unsprung motor was okay for slow street riding, but it would be horrible for any off-road racing or motocross. First -- I pinch flatted a few inner tubes and dinged up the rear rim until it cracked. Second -- Jumping with the rear hub motor is extremely unpredictable...

Nice review! I was there at MX Express with my MX and MXR. I agree and confirm everything that you are saying about the bike, the power, the handling, and the suspension. Yes, the MXR indeed needs a shock revalve to add more low-speed control, this is why I wasn't riding mine. I am shipping out my suspension on Monday...

I have an 110V inverter in my van. It works, it can add a bit of charge, but it charges at about half the speed of a normal 110V outlet. This is not fast enough to make much of a difference on my typical track day. And I have to keep the van running all the time, else it drains...

If the YZ250 is for the Working class, then the electric bikes must be the best bang for the buck for the Riding class -- folks who would rather ride their bikes rather than work on them. ;-)

Do not worry about the dying industries. Nobody is missing landline telephone manufacturers, or are we? With less money needed for maintenance, people will be able to ride more and buy more bikes. Graphics kits sales will take off, hey everyone will still want to look fast! I am now shopping for a custom graphics kit for my second Alta!

About 15-20 years ago the AMA allowed the 4-strokes into the 125cc and 250cc classes. And where did it get us? Only a few years later the 125cc class was dead, the 250cc class became the 450cc class, and the 250cc 4-strokes became faster than the 250cc 2-strokes.
