By swapmoto

Fri, Apr 29 2011 4:05 pm

Early this afternoon, FMX hero, Baja racer and off-road truck pilot Jeff “Ox” Kargola succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash while participating in the Rip To The Tip Baja ride. According to sources close to Kargola, he crashed in a whoop section and suffered a punctured lung, and was initially rendered unconscious. Kargola was reported to be coherent and speaking as he and the rest of the ride group waited for the Life Flight chopper. It is believed that Kargola passed en route to the hospital. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

You will be missed by many, Ox.

That is terrible, with a punctured lung, does that mean he basically bled into it and drowned in his own blood?

GodSpeed Ox and prayers and support to his family and friends.

Thats heavy shit, and just earlier this week another FMX guy Greg Hartman got hurt really bad.

This sucks Sad I remember seeing him in person at the Kicker Big Air Bash in Vegas during SEMA and he was killing it with the freestyle and actually putting Todd Potter to shame that night. RIP Ox

Yes it does Scottie....I can tell you from first hand that when you puncture both of them it's like someone holding you under water and letting you back up every 15 sec's or so. I thank god for Life flight when it happened to me in 05'! Nothing worse than trying to breathe and you can't and fluid is running out every where when you try to breathe out. Worse feeling in the world.

You don't always bleed into a punctured lung, you can have a pneumothorax with is a collapsing of the lung or both lungs. In which case he may have had some difficulty breathing for a few minutes, then he could have become hypoxic which could have rendered him unconscious in minutes. I personally hope this was the case and he didn't suffer at all.

I parked next to him at Glen Helen on a practice day and got to talk to him for a little while and he was really down to earth.

wow, didn't know about Ox's background. I knew he and Cameron Steele were close but not this close. This is from that orangecounty.com link that Xeno posted:

OX is not just a large moto rider from the surf ghetto of San Clemente, he is an X-Games medalist and an overall Baja winner for factory Hondas effort with Johnny Campbell Racing.

His real name is Jeff and he has lived through some hard knocks to keep coming back on top. Jeff’s father passed away before he was old enough to drive and his mother lost her battle with cancer when Jeff was 25. He shares this similar tragedy with Rip co-founder Cameron Steele who also lost his Mom to cancer early in life. It is not totally clear which is more true but they are either like brothers or father and son.

OX has done more in 25 years than most will do in multiple lifetimes and his sponsor supports his on the edge lifestyle. Not only does OX compete at the top of the freestyle and Baja world but he is an accomplished tow in surfer and is not afraid to challenge much.

Was hoping to hear some good news when I opened this thread again.
Almost a year exactly to McFarlane's passing & Magoos passing.
