Pourcel does not need the money. He is loaded. Set for life. Why race unless its for stupid money? Ask JS how much he would need to make to race the entire outdoor season.

kong, im not knocking cp at all here.

i give him props for going for what he believes hes worth. this is normal for most every other sport. i do not see why anyone would be jealous of "labor" taking advantage of the situation afforded them and trying to get as much from "management" as possible. well.....i guess i could see why some here would be jealous, most of us are labor, and most of us have no leverage on management. so when we see an athlete get in this position that we'd all love to be in, envy sets in. people really shouldnt be hating on the guy tho. we'd all do the same if we were in his position.

i just hope there is a master plan here on his part.

it'd be so weird to see fox and monster shell out all this money to a guy who is not going to race because nobody can afford him or because these odd conflicts with co-sponsors have closed too many doors.

Go ahead, split hair if you like. 150 points behind the winner, in a depleted field, isn't exactly coming close to delivering a championship in my book.

Hey I don't care either way. The show will go on with or without him.
But the guy was paralyzed and his brother is out 4 to 6 months with a broken back. So I can't fault him for not wanting to ride below a certain price. I just don't understand why people are piling the shit on him.

so for those keeping score....

ktm was willing to pay the price....cp dont like the bikes.

kawi offered him what he wanted, deal was ready to go, but they didnt want mitch involved so cp's loyalty cost him that deal

mitch offered to field a kawi 450 for cp but kawi wants none of that. mitch trying to get in the 450 class is part of what pushed kawi to fmf in the first place. so no pc kawi 450 without kawis blessing and that aint happening so pc kawi deal dead.

geico cant afford the bonuses asked for.....so gieco honda 450 deal dead.

monster helmet deal conflicts with valli's rockstar affiliation so the valli deal is dead? hmmm....this must be out of loyalty to monster on cp's part then. because it was yamaha and rockstar who were willing to pay whatever the price to get him on valli.

why is it that it feels like this whole thing is a charade to leverage for the factory hrc seat?

JSE is heavily affiliated with redbull. JGR likes taking projects, not stars/primadonas, so no chance he's gonna be with JGR.

twotwo is with shift. fox owns shift. and cp got a monster deal from fox recently. twotwo needs an energy drink. but monster is and forever will be glued to kawi for the time being so i dont see monster helping out a honda backed team.

whats left?

what a circus. they all think (and they may be right) that hes the next JMB. ive never seen anything like this.
Are you sure about the KTM deal? It's been said here he didn't like the KTMs, but sounded on the man that he didn't want CP because of him being less marketable than Short etc and for sure the cash they had to pay it wasn't worth it?

In the french interview from 2010 he said Kawasaki NEWER returned his offer, newer called etc. That's the reason why he wont ride a PC Kawasaki according to was it Matthes or Nerd? So I don't buy that he got a good offer...

I agree with the rest though! Smile

People pile shit on him because he's: rich, faster than everybody here, french, score more chicks than us combined (if you count me out, because I will kill him in that competition lol) and has integrity and does his own thing without any major consideration what will the general fan think of me now. And if I forgot, he's FRENCH!

Just Imagine if he was a gay, black and atheist as well?

Maybe that's why? Smile

Where would you draw the line though? If you don't get 75%, will you take 50%, 25%, work for nothing?
And if you do work for nothing, were does that leave the other riders? "So sorry, I was going to pay you to risk your life, but guess what, I can get a Pourcel for nothing...".
GEICO or Valli aren't taking much of a risk with a bonus only contract. So if they want a top level rider, the least they can do is make it interesting for him. It's not like they are proven powerhouses in the 450s. Last time I checked they haven't delivered any championship or come close to one.
This isn't emotional, it's simply a business decision at the end of the day. How much money do they expect will come in as a result of how the rider rides and how much will the expenses be and what does the net bottom line look like? It's as simple as that. I'm not saying CP isn't a great rider, he is. But how much revenue and profit will he generate is the question at the end of the day. It's not just based on how well he rides either, look at KW. He's an icon and I don't know what his payout is, but I guarantee he's worth every penny of it - win or lose.

And as far as the risk your life comment, CP chose this profession and nobody is putting a gun to his head to make him "risk his life" by racing. I don't have any sympathy for him since he chose his career path. I wish I had 25% of the talent and opportunity these guys have. Some of them are making an unbelievable living/retirement doing what we do for fun on the weekends.

Someone in the CP camp caught it just in time

No kidding he's a young man still. He could use a few more Zero's at the end of his statement.

Obviously His price is so high nobody can afford him and his demands. I wonder if any GP Teams even tried.

I thought about what's going on , and came up with a mathematical equation for it No > CP X SX =0 , + no CP X Nat = 0 divided by CP +GP's = $$$$. Obviously this equation is different here then it is overseas!

If he doesn't snap back into reality......his hopes of winning anything over here shrink by the day! Which pisses me off , because I really want to watch him race!

Was it a "middle finger" gesture?

Or a "please send me a bike" message?

I am sure you would like to announce the outcome right here on the most factual place of MX...?Tongue

They still playing hardball?

He would be a great addition to your team.
Use some kind of French physiological guilt trip to make him sign. Smile
Or just show up at his house every morning with a Moto Concepts Team Bike in the back of
your truck and say...let's go riding.
Maybe even have JMB,Tortelli,Ron Ron,Sorby,Picone & yourself corner him and talk him into signing with MC. Smile
Pressure him.
How could a French MX'er say no to all those guys?

Kind of made me laugh how all this time everyone was sayin how he would be a title threat right away in SX, I kind of doubt it.
Top 10, top 5, ok, but if he did race SX I would have been shocked to see him top 3.

IMO he is making a big mistake in not signing with someone. He is not the only "rock star" in the sport. He better go to work before he loses more chances and more fans.

That is where you are wrong. I prefer people who make decisions based on what they want to do and not what the majority of people want/ expect them to do. I'm not saying he is necessarily right in this situation but I respect him for drawing a line in the sand and holding his ground. CP is awesome in my book.

450's, dude.

When did he ever spank anyone here on the 450?? Ummmmm...oh yeah...never.

I will never discredit him for his skill, speed, history, past chamionships, etc. - he beat the best 250 guys a lot. But where does he get off asking such a big price for a ride he is unproven on??
