I haven't heard or read his name in a while and I didn't start this thread to lament his injury or inquire about his health. I merely wanted to salute our modern day Malcom Smith and say thanks for all the memories.

My personal favorite- taking a stock CRF 450 to Florida and winning the first GNCC you ever entered.

You are sorely missed from the racing scene.

Henry is the ALL TIME toughest rider. Nobody can even stand in his shadow. Heart like a lion, but a nice, cuddly lion. Did I say cuddly? I meant, like, a lion thats nice and wont eat you. You know... like, like the Narnia one.....

I never thought about it before today but the success in different types of racing coupled with the obvious enjoyment both took out of the sport hit me like a bolt of lightning.

i hope Doug can get some joy out of the coming years

Great ride that day in FL. I remember when he broke his arms and walked calmly up the the fence and asked a spectator to remove his helmet! I am surprised he could be so cool in such pain. Thanks for bringing up Doug, he's one rider that seems to always get respect and in today's MX/online world that says a lot..Obrigato Dean

Doug Henry is a Living Legend in every sense of the word...

I can still close my eyes and CLEARLY see him flying down the fence line on the big down hill at Broome in 1993 as if it were yesterday. He was less than a foot away from a few hundred fans WFO! I also smelled 2 stroke & Race Gas when I closed my eyes but we won't open that can of worms.

The world would be a better place with more Doug Henry's!

It's hard to beat what everyone else has said already, Doug Henry is #1.

(I thought he did a great job commentating and I hope he does more of it.)

Saw him almost win the SX at the L.A. Coliseum in '97 on the YZF400. My boy was rooting for MC and me for DH. It sucked seeing him kick the 4 stroke while the field pedaled on by.

Always pulling for Doug. Definately a remarkable never-say-die rider.

I was there that day. I helped take his goggles off... All you 4 stroke guys can thank Doug for developing that 4 stroke YZ400F that hiccup'ed on the face of Big Gulp. I swore I'd never ride a 4-stroke after that day. He risked his career and life riding that thing. Doug is a hero regardless.

I remember standing at Budds in 1995 watching the national and hearing a big part of the crowd scream when he crashed off Henry Hill. It was scary to hear so many people yelling. I knew something big and crazy had happened.
I remember being so relieved when he gave the thumbs up being carried out on the stretcher....tough as nails and always smiling.

"Bent, never broken" was Henry's saying after his miraculous comeback after he broke his back at Budds in 1995. I think he even supported getting a clothing line started called "Bent".

That was 98. My first ever Supercross. If it wasn't for Henry and his efforts that night I don't think I'd still be following this sport. Henry is the man, and a hero in every sense of the word.

Henry is the reason that guys like Hansen and Reed piss me off so much. He is such a role model. Always smiling and just happy to be there. To be where he was in his career, suffer the back injury, come back and break both arms, come back and have that crash and bust out his teeth (was the before or after the broken arms?) and then win an outdoor championship... and these guys today don't want to race outdoors because it's hot...
