So a thought here, all you guys who whine about guys like Hansen to move up from the 250's to 450's, so why is the purse the same in either class? And I know Hansen doesn't do out-doors, but still they pay the same because they are the same just different cc's. Brown, Ramsey, Roncada, they were all 125 or 250f specialists, they raced a class they enjoyed and did well on.

In the outdoor nationals the 250 and 450 are both national championships. SX is different 450 is a national championship and the 250 is regional. Outdoors there is no age restriction or pointing out of the 250 class and indoors there is

That is one sad looking payout. The sport should be ashamed.

450 outdoors is the priemere class and therefore should pay more than 250 class. No insentive to move up as others have stated. The lites class was suppose to be a development class but I guess somehow that got lost.

I don't know about you but if someone comes to me with a bad business proposal, I turn it down.

Until they can't put on a show don't expect it ever to change. Maybe they should do like GP's and pay nothing ? That would end the debate over what is not enough.

Just asking how long have you been into motocross? this is no way a dig but in the 70's and 80's there was no developmental class, you either raced 125, 250 or 500, also the mini classes. So where you get the idea it was supposed to be developmental was maybe how they fed it to us when they added 125's to the Supercross program, in the early 90's was it? I think it's fine the way it is, your choice of being a pro and racing the class you want. The only benefit I see on keeping the 250's separate coasts is more guys get factory backing rides, if they made it like the 450's then a shit load of guys will be out of rides, keep it the way it is and let them race what they want, period.

1980 was my first sanctioned race. Missed 86 to about 92 but have been up on things the rest of the nintees. Only spectate the last ten years and ride for fun. 125 outdoors in the nintees you got the boot after a couple number one plates. Lamson,(95,96), Henry (93 94), and RC (97 98 99). Something like that. West coast supercross 125 Damon Huffman could not defend his 94 title for Suzuki because he was in the class too many seasons. So things have changed I guess.
In Canada for what it is worth the 450 class pays considerable more. than the 250f class.

That's a little over $33K per round of purse money and less than $400K for the series. I don't know what the series pays champions but there needs to be something done to bring more money to these racers for risking it all.

And we wonder why the sport is more NASCAR-like. They wouldn't be able to race without bonuses. Don't even mention bike costs. True privateers are disappearing. Oh well...

The payout is really weak. You wouldn't believe how much Monster pays for the banners on the side of the track! People are getting rich but it certainly isn't the riders from the payout.

Agreed, let's have it 500guy. Where is the money that SPEED and CBS pay for TV rights? What about all the other companies with banners and hay-bale covers? The money is going somewhere but it's not to the riders.

You got it wrong, CBS and Speed don't pay for the TV rights, MXSports pays them to cover the race. Same with Feld too I believe, they pay the TV companies, not the other way around. Kind of like the reason ESPN started the X-Games, they can control the entire package.

Speed or CBS doesn't pay anything.
It is the other way around....
Feld pays Speed & CBS to air Supercross and it is big money.
MX Sports also pays to have the nationals on TV.

People would be shocked if they knew how much Monster pays to be a title sponsor and banners everywhere at every race! Its sad the riders get the shaft and pay way more than they make. But I don't think it will change anytime soon.

Didn't realize that, thanks. Another reason NASCAR is so much bigger then is the TV stations pay for the rights to show the race. I thought that was a norm. The sport needs a drastic change to gain money. These guys qualifying every weekend sx or mx should be able to make a living. They are after all the top guys in the country.

Nascar has HUGE tv ratings, moto doesn't hence the reason we don't get the coverage we want unless we pay for it. plus with the moto industry on it's ass, there really isn't a whole lot of people paying for the commercials for these shows (moto). It's a vicious cycle, you need sponsorship money to pay for the tv, but you also need sponsors to pay for the commercials, which one is more important?

I don't know exact numbers. In 2008 I had a friend who worked for on the series driving the truck with the banners and setting them all up at every national. Every banner size has a price and it isn't cheap. Your talking 10's of thousands for a big banner. How much is a title sponsor worth? Million or more I imagine.

I don't think it's millions, I think you can get the moto industry for a lot cheaper then you think.

MX Sports also pays to have the nationals on TV.
How long can that last? I would think their goal is to hopefully get enough viewers where eventually they can get a paying TV deal.
