what happened so bad in the 08 season??
He won the SX title I suppose.

Stantons interviews are good. I don't agree with some of his outlooks and opinions but I do like his brutal honesty.

we all speak out in our own way.we all have different personalities .
the difference here is that its coming out of the mouth of a champion.
apparently,in stantons world, reeds problems may have been known more than we know.so now that we hear it ,we are attacking .when in reality , we were left out of the loop!
after all, reed is in the middle of making a book about his life.

By commenting on Reed's struggles Stanton was merely providing context for his answer. For those who glossed over the answer to the question, it was "I am super happy for Reed" Stanton wasn't bagging on Reed or bringing up anything that wasn't already public, he was complementing him for persevering through his personal struggles.

Do I detect a hint of condescension or pride in Stanton's comments. Sounds like Hansel - ". . . Sting is one of my favorites. The music he's making, I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it, I respect that."

I really think Reed's bridges got burnt by not representing teams well, always saying they had work to do, complaining about bikes, etc.. Of course he's not doing that much now, on his own team. But, I wonder how much Stanton was holding back, can't bash a guy too much when he's the top rider for your brand.

Yes I agree. You would have to hear the tone of voice he used when he said "...i'm happy for the guy..."

Wonder if he made a blacked out man cave in his basement, all McGrath style to follow his heroes dreams. I heard that place was like Vegas. What happens in the basement stays in the basement... until he talked about it in his book.

Several hypocrits on here - saying that Stanton shouldn't be talking about certain things while I'm sure if we took the time to dig, these same people have posted comments about Stewart, Lawrence, Hill etc. And to badmouth Stanton as a champion just goes to show how much some people know about the sport.
not bad mouthing stanton ...stanford...Smile ...one of our greats!

just the choice of words...the overall context of his answer was well meaning ...and if he's being brutally honest (which is his style) fair enough....but his definition of "bottom of the barrel" and mine are completely different...

I have to respectfully disagree. Guys like Stanton had their day, but that day has come and gone and bringing another riders personal life into an interview like that, shows that that he has no special insight.

What a country huh? Good point on the personal life but the insight on the pressure of a title chasecomes from a pretty exclusive club

Stanton was always an asshole and elbows guy. I don't think there is anything exclusive about that. He worked harder than the others in his group. Things worked out until JMB came along and showed him that raw talent was a bigger factor than assholes and elbows.
