Windham has been the runner up in 9 championships. He finished second to RC 5 times, Reed 2 times, Lamson 1 time and Albertyn 1 time.

Finishing 2nd 9 times is only an above average carrer???????

What are some of you guys smoking??? Is it the kush?? or the purps???
Windham has the talent to run with any of them, he's only been in contention twice.

2004 after the fuel penalty.

2008 after Reed does everything he can to lose it halfway through.

Distant second with the talent to compete for first does not equal one of the greats, It equals one of the goods.

The Buffalo BIlls finished second like 4 times are they one of the great NFL teams? KW had/has a good career and is one of the better riders among his current competition but when you start to compare him against the sports great riders the fact that he has no titles comes into play. Especially when the consensus among many is that he had the talent to win mutiple titles.

I would bet that a ton of riders would trade their career for KW's if given the chance except for maybe RC, Stewart and Reed. He is a lot closer to great than he is to good thats for damn sure.

Kdub is a good rider but certainly lacks something>What that is I dont know as Im a crap rider. He seems to lack something that could have made him a Champ.People hate on Reed for being arrogant but maybe if Kevin had some of that he might have some titles.
Great career, good rider, nice guy but needed more mongrel in him.Maybe if he had been around in another era he might of but being up against RC,JS and CR cant have been easy but gotta respect him for keepin on tryin when others havent. He seemed to find that bit extra this year maybe because he thought he was in with a chance. He has definitely achieved what may others havent.Kdub is a class act for sure!

RV would have to be the true "under achiever" this year, especially with the whole pickin' in the 250f class thing.

Here's what really matters. Kevin Windham has a good thing going. He has a great wife, excellent kids, nice roof over his head and he loves his job. He's having fun what he is doing. Greatness isn't measured in championship.

Congrats to Chad Reed for winning the 2008 Supercross Championship and congrats to Kevin Windham for upping the anti and making it interesting for us fans. Oh and congrats on second place in the championship. A place many factory riders and privateers dream about.

I've said it before, KW is an artist on a bike. Like an artist can't make art unless he's feeling it, KW can't really make it happen on a bike unless he's feeling it. It's just the way it is. RC can will himself to go fast, James just goes fast all the time, Reed has figured out methods that work to go fast, and KW waits till the stars line up and then he goes so fast, so easily that it can only be described as art. He's built a great career doing it his way, and kudos to him.

Only if you are simply looking at the standings and weren't aware of the race that he got knocked out of....

Considering that event, he performed great this season. After basically losing a race and then to get back in to the championship race like that? That's not really underachieving.....

I talk shit about Windham only trying when he has a chance to win but he showed some real class on the podium.
Class doesn't win Championships. RC would have parked Reed so hard if he were in that situation. Carmichael is still oldschool and a champion. Windham is just not championship material. He had multiple opportunities this season and rode around in 7th place like a boner.

I like KW but it's the truth.

Not that it puts him at the level of greats, but isn't he the first (only?) active 125 rider to win a 250 SX? And KW does have two 125 titles under his belt.

Add to that, he has had some bad luck if you want to call it that. His losses to RC for RC's first 125 outdoor title and to Alby were partly due to mechanical issues if I recall. Then there was some key injuries that really seem to derail him when he was very close.

Everyone mentions JBS, RC, and CR...but, KW also had to deal with MC...so he's been chasing some of the best ever. Not an easy situation.

I've always wondered (no way to know), but I think that his original decision to go to Honda when he moved up to the 250 class (98?) seems to have hurt his career. I think if he had stayed on blue, he was with a team that functioned the way he needed and would have helped him deal with the mental side.

Doesn't matter. I don't see any way he will ever win a championship, but I like the guy and love to watch him ride when he's on the gas.

Always felt the same about Lusk and a couple of others. I think things are a little more low-key at the blue truck and a more rider friendly bike. Honda is the pressure-cooker team of the sport. Poor Tommy Hahn sure found that out. He seems to be doing much better now.

He was very unhappy at Yamaha at the time.
It would not have benefited him to stay

But what do I know?

Probably true about McCarty, but the older Honda chassis just wasn't very good, and that probably didn't hurt Lusk and Windham.

Most people don't consider 125 SX regional titles to be "major" titles. It's an open question, but there's no question that a 125 regional is a much different thing from either 125 or 250 outdoor titles or a 250SX title.
