AI tells me this is a mounting bracket on a Pro-Circuit CR250R pipe

I don't think Ive seen a single bike that uses this tab to mount the pipe and there's almost always a little threaded tab at this end of the pipe for a much more solid mounting spot.   There's not even enough room to slide anything into it without jamming something under it and prying it up at the risk of denting the actual pipe.

Is there some other purpose for this little tab or bracket?

I’d say It’s for strengthening the connection of the cone to the small pipe. It might be a weak point and potentially prone to breaking.

Cut it off and ride it for about 10 hours and report the results back.

But yes, if it weren’t there you would likely have a crack in the pipe at the weld that spans

You are showing your age, the 1986 was the last bike to use the spring!

Other comments are right, it's to strengthen the joint.

When a customer comes in and says they asked AI or AI said this, you may not see it, but I'm already pissed off.

I've asked AI questions I know the answers to and it gets stuff wrong or incomplete  as often as it gets it right.  AI is good for some stuff, but  its ruining the knowledge base that the internet was.  Relying on the ai summary is like reading a headline and thinking You got the full story.

I hope that more people learn this and that the makers of AI figure out how to filter out the bad info that has resulted from AI training off of bad info that gets repeated by humans who do not know better.

I also see AI giving answers that seem to be more confirmation biased than the real answer. Seems like its trying not to offend the person by telling them they were wrong sometimes so it tries to prove them right. And its able to by finding something that agrees.  It's scary how amazing AI is for some things and how its total crap for others.

I asked AI who was Carlos Rivera’s rider in 2026. AI answer was Cooper Web on KTM. If you did not know better, you would think that was correct information. There is no correct history in the future.

Most of the country reads the headline and bases their entire lives off of it, that’s how we got here. 😆

My Mom (79 but sharp as a tack) has been having issues with her phone, so she called Verizon customer service.

She told us she spent 90 minutes talking with such a nice lady who was so helpful, that at the end of the conversation my Mom asked for her name to thank her for being so helpful. The response.... I am your AI customer support agent (or something like that).

She spent an hour and a half on the phone having full conversations and had no idea until the end she was talking to a computer.

But also yes, I agree with you that the Google version of AI is hit and miss for correct information. Just crazy how good AI has gotten in certain applications that someone can have a 90 minute talk and not realize it is AI.

Yah its great in some areas.  The commercial stuff that you pay for can do some really cool stuff with automation and  alot of stuff. I have some AI features in my Adobe software that are amazing. It is like having a second me or more in some cases. I love to design, but using it for stuff like fixing low res logos from customers. I'm just getting into it, but there are some AI tool in the animation software that make it crazy easy to turn a pencil sketch  all the way to a 3d puppet .  I think that there are some great uses for AI.

Its just  not a great tool for everything.  Like anything the more you know the better it can work for you. I just see people skipping learning stuff and going right to having AI do it for them and in those cases its contributing to the dumbing down of the world.

I got an email saying my package was shipped. High lighted the tracking number and right clicked google search. Basic shit. Top of the google search was the ai answer: will be delivered tomorrow, X date. I scrolled down to the fed ex or usps website I don't remember, and the website said it was a day later! Ai is supposed to take that information, from the internet, and give me the correct answer right?! You built a computer that doesn't compute

Another heavy piece for no reason. Cut it off, like the works bikes. Another 1/10 sec of lap time!
