No bed extender needed. Owned Tacoma and frontier. Front wheel in one corner, rear wheel opposite corner, tailgate halfway up (route the tailgate wire around the latch tab).

Toyota resale value is unmatched. Owned a 4Runner and Tacoma. Put about 25k miles on both, sold for exactly what I paid for them. Makes no sense to me, but I was happy about it.

I run taildoor down ( was chev Colorado equivalent, Holden, now BYD shark ), ramp tied on crossways just in front of the rear tire.

Not sure if that’s legal in the USA though.

Was also wanting a tonneau cover. Probable have to go with a soft roll up to not lose box space. Have a hard back flip on my full size and love it but does take up 5 or 6 inches at front

I’ve had several Toyota Tacomas in the past, that with a ready ramp worked awesome!

Teach her how to drive a full-size pick-up.

….and buy her some jewelry to go with it.

I’m available for more marital advice.

Frontier is going to be the least expensive for a given feature set. Resale may not be as good as Toyota but when you are saving $5-8k on the cost upfront the $4-5k better resale for a Toyota a couple of years down the road doesn't pencil out.

Any truck can haul your bike with the tailgate down. If you want tailgate up it is Frontier or Tacoma with the 6' bed options. At that point they turn about as tight as a half ton so keep that in mind.

I can personally attest to this.

My Fronty has been a great purchase.  It's solid, drives great, has good power.   I have no need for a full size truck and the Nissan is the only mid size left with a N/A V6 engine ( Honda ridgeline has a V6, but it's not a "real"  truck....they're pretty nice though)    No turbo motors for me, no freaking way.

My brother has 150k on his Maverick and really likes it. It'll get 20+mpg on the highway with a bike, and 30 without. For the "it's not a real truck" guys, he also has a Dodge 4500 for heavy hauling.

Ridgeline, put your gear in the bed trunk, strap the ramp and stand down in the front and go.

Ive been to Florida from Kentucky several trips like that and never had any issues. Use to go to several GNCCs like that as well.

I know it’s not really mid size, but I’m more than happy with my Maverick hybrid for hauling my bike all over southern ca. I put a cheap Amazon bed extender and it works great and is easy to load up with the low bed height. Plus the copilot 360 makes driving almost hands free on the highway.

For the record I daily drive a Ram 5500 for work and am paying almost $3000 a month in diesel. So getting 30 plus mpg with a bike in the back is pretty freaking nice. Even if it doesn’t look “tough”.

Can echo the support of the Nissan Frontier. I have a 2024 PRO4X model and couldn't be much happier. Bike fits even with backflip style tonneau with the tailgate down.

Drives like a midsize tho.

They’re pretty huge. Definitely not a midsize. Where I live they are very difficult to get around in. Have a buddy who had one. Super sick though. If they made an actual midsize truck it’d sell so well. If it also looked more truck-like, it’d probably be the best selling midsize on the market.

The teslas are seriously impressive. Self driving is next level.

I had the 1st Maverick in my area in 2022. You're stuck with a front wheel drive biased, turbo motor unless you want the hybrid and a 4.5' bed. Also, Crew Cab is only configuration. I went with the Turbo and added AWD and tow packages. Did not like the FWD Torque Steer and cab/bed config and fact they are UNIbody. I only had it as a placeholder anyways for traditional mini truck with 6' bed and really wanted 2WD like my old Rangers if possible for better MPG and towing. Thought a new Ranger would be in my future but then they went Crew Cab with shorter bed only and 4-cylinder turbo as base model. Nope.

Started looking at other brands and best fit for me ended up being Nissan Frontier King Cab with Supercab, 6' bed, and that V6 standard. Coming up on 3 years in Dec without a single problem and added benefit is the bed reach in height is similar to Maverick 👍 The motor scoots wihthout needing a turbo and gets decent MPG as well.

Don't care about resale value as it's my last vehicle in all probability and I have a Grand Cherokee to and both are paid for and cheap to keep and insure.

FSD is the #1 reason why I own one. Game changer, just like smartphones and internet.

I have rented just about every new midsize truck on the market in the last year, I fly in, rent one and haul a bike back to Texas.  And I usually rag on them pretty hard.

This is how I would rank them:

  1.  Toyota Tacoma, usually I end up with the TRD or at least one that is well equipped, 4x4, the suspension can take a beating, tie downs are where they are supposed to be, electrical connections in the bed, haul a medium sized trailer, its basically ready to do anything you want to do with it.  Downside is the price, when I looked the cheapest 4x4 models were starting in the high $40s low $50s.
  2. Ford Ranger, its very close to the Tacoma, maybe a bit more comfortable, but the suspension does not feel as good.  I have not driven the Ranger Raptor, which might actually be the best in the class, though it is over $50K
  3. Jeep Gladiator, I do own a jeep so I am used to how jeeps drive, but I was able to get 2 bikes into the bed.  Its slow and limited when it comes to luxury, but the most versatile.  I have seen these listed very cheap because some dealers have a hard time moving them.

Ridgey. Mpg crushes the rest, reliable Honda, awd is killer etc. rides smoother and much quieter than most others. The cargo area under the bed can hold vp gas cans inside of bike stands, or a gear bag, or a couple tool boxes and folding chairs, it’s pretty handy. The rear seats fold up against the back wall leaving the floor totally flat.

I loved mine. Just sold it to get something that tows a litttle more as I have plans to drag cars all over the country soon.

But miss it already. The replacements already been a turd and just about nothing is as easy to own and easy to drive like a Honda.

6ft Tacoma, bike has to go sideways to close the gate. All single, extended cabs have 6ft beds. Crew Cab is either 5 or 6ft. I like my Tacoma. I bought my 2020 after I hit a deer and insurance totaled my 06 Taco. They paid me exactly what I paid for it 10 years later.
