A lot of us grew up riding with our dads from a young age. At 36, my dad was and still is my best riding buddy. He’s done it a long time and knows what to do and how to do it properly, so I have always trusted what he has told me at the track. I raced the 2 stroke nationals in 2020, him and my mom took the trailer and bike out the night before so all I had to do was show up and race. He still sweeps my gate for me, preps the bike when he’s not riding/racing and makes the entire day less stressful and easier for me just because he loves doing it and he wants me to be at my absolute best. Is this necessary in any way? Absolutely not! But I’m more thankful for it than he will ever know. When he’s the one racing, I return the favor making sure he’s got nothing to do other than eat, rest and show up to the gate on time.
I know 100% that if I had ever made it to the professional level, my dad would step back, let the team do their thing and just make sure I’m where I need to be mentally to perform my best. The key is dad knowing when to step back and let the team handle all the other stuff and for him to just make sure his son is in the right mental state. Unfortunately as we’ve seen time and time again, a lot of these moto dads are living through their kids and think they know best about anything and everything.
Darrin Lawrence's role is different than the average moto dad. His opinion is valued by Lars and others on the team. He obviously gets his point across without drama. You won't hear or see him ranting or raging, He's not above calling out the boys if they are the problem. If there was shit going on there is no you wouldn't hear it. John Tomac has been Eli's fitness coach his whole career right? You don't hear anything negative from the Tomac camp.
The Tomacs should start a MotoDads school to teach dads how to behave and be the best for their kids and teach the kids how to respect but not rely on their parents during their career. They could be the next Bakers factory success story.
Evidence of that is Ian Harrison having nothing but praise for the professionalism of Eli.
Over and over again in interviews fro the past year.

Do you get the hint Ian states these things about the Tomac family as an opposed to the Sexton family behavior, or perhaps other rider's and their families? It seems it.
No.
There is no passive aggressiveness to what Ian says.
I think Ian genuinely thinks the Tomacs are wonderful to work with .
Looking back I am really bummed Eli didn't get the sx championship with KTM.
As a fan it's greedy to want more
I am curious if the last name is hyphenated? I have no clue but I remember seeing a lot of the same woman when it started getting close to loretta's time. Maybe it was because of the algorithm. But I did see the one lady over and over.
I can relate. I’m not the fastest dude but I’m a local A rider and it’s ALWAYS a dad who can’t ride to save his life..and for some reason that makes me even more mad. Aside from some ex-pros, I never see local fast guys forcing their kid to jump something or beating on their helmet and I’d never dream of doing that to my kid. The kid is just a little ripper trying his hardest.
I like AC’s rule. If the dad wants it more than the kid, pack it up and quit IMO.
Me too I think. It is a lady that does some wrenching as well. It was in my bullshit around LL time.
Just say who it is - It's not that big of a deal.😛
