Battery tech is moving ahead in leaps and bounds.  Major manufacturers have solid state batteries coming, and start ups like Donut are already putting them in Verge motorcycles.  Graphene on the other hand is the real game changer.  Graphene Manufacturing Group and Rio Tinto have been developing a graphene/aluminum battery that is way ahead of Li batteries.  Their ongoing testing has confirmed the data below.  In short, with Honda and Yamaha moving along, the shift to electric is a lot closer than people think.

GMG is real and may begin commercialization in a year or so however their tech is not suitable for an electric dirt bike (at current prototype specs it would require a 70 kg battery).

And Donut are just snake oil salesmen.

I am much more familiar with GMG than Donut and you may be right that they are unfortunate examples.  But time will tell on that score and whether GMG's limitations are indeed limitations.  Being partnered with Rio Tinto, I am assuming that the target is mining and not motorcycles at this point.

Regarding Donut, I haven't really followed them, but they are/were supplying batteries for that Finnish street bike start up, no?  Or did that project fail already?

Sorry but Donut claims are all proven fake so far and seems they are just milking private support money with empty promises. There are several youtube videos about their story and handmade batteries they have tested are not solid state batteries.

What he said. I don't think they have put their revolutionary-commercially ready-super-duper battery in a single rolling motorcycle, bit even mentioning delivering to customers. Don't think they have any kind of research lab nor battery manufacturing capacity by the way.

How many dirt bike manufacturers are there in the US?

Hey, I didn’t write that quote. Direct your argument to 3 strokes.

And show a little respect for the Harley Davidson MX250. Rex Staten certainly did.

Let’s talk about those incredible Aussie bikes? Word is, they started via a pull cord.

Well, we did have the Alrons. 🙃😁😉

Largely 'Kit' bikes, using Sprite kits from Britain, but, with some local differences.

They used the British engine for a time, then, Ossa engines.

I'd say the HD MXers, had only a little bit more local, US content to them. They were , at their basis, Italian.

A local  bloke to me, the Legend that (was) Brian Clarkson - R.I.P -, sold them ( He brought in Rickmans, as well) , so I had them 'to hand', so to speak. He let loose a 14 year old  - me- a few times on the Ossa variants.

He was a Magnificent, Mad Bastard, was Brian. To see him Road Racing an SC500 against Tar Bikes, was something. Well, seeing him Racing / Riding Anything was an experience. I miss the bloke!

The Japanese took US jobs when they entered the dirt bike market, Harley Davidson couldn't compete.

Why to you think "Another Chinaman just took a US job", the US doesn't manufacture dirt bikes.

If you are right about Chinese bikes being poor quality, they will create US jobs for all the repairs required, shouldn't you be celebrating that?

Sir, I have always loved the way you writeSmile . Brian sounds like someone I would have enjoyed hanging out with.

And the Ossas? I had a fascination with them as a teenager for some reason. I thought they looked really trick.

Well, potentially, yes. My chinaman comment was on the heels of 3 stroker. Perhaps you have him blocked?

My biggest thing with potentially going electric is just service. Dont have to worry about cleaning filters/oil every ride. Ride it, wash it, park it and bring it out the next weekend. Only having to worry about chain, tires, grips. Basic things. By the time the battery is worn out ittle be time to buy a new one anyway. But like others said, they still cant go 2-3 hours on a charge at a fast pace, when one can consistently do a GNCC and not have to worry about a battery swap or regen settings, ill probably buy one.

I went to Buttonwoods to watch a couple guys I know ride last sunday.  Both been racing MX since the 1970s and have championships under their belts, so yes they are vet riders now.  One had a Varg and has raced everything from 100cc to 500cc 2T and 4 strokes as well.  He said very happy with the Stark, and also both liked Buttonwoods.
