Firmly believe feld and the track builders should hire either a retired pro like Kenny, Trey canard, or someone who is a talented rider/good communicator to ride these tracks when they’re finished being built late Thursday or early Friday morning to tell them what needs changed.

The best local tracks I’ve ever ridden are always built by a dude who rides them.  I’m sure lots of dudes building these tracks are fast guys and racers but so many track changes could get worked out before press day starts.  Just 10 laps a good rider taking every line and seeing whats going to see what’s one lined and what isn’t.

Hire a top privateer who wants a full time career riding but is done racing.

they did this in 2009. RC, Pastrana, McGrath, Larocco, Stanton, Ricky Johnson all designed a track for the supercross season.

The approval of some of these track designs (like this past round 3 of SMX) is baffling.  It's like no one actually looks at the design and uses judgment as to if it will provide passing opprtunities and good racing.   I get that floor space is a design constraint, and that is amplified at smaller venues, but with the ample room available at Thunder Ridge, that was not really a factor.

Any long section that’s slightly curved with rollers or jumps means zero passing. Every single time. And they still use that regularly.

Just recycle designs that were loved and produced good racing.

Fuckk reinventing the wheel for the sake of it. Use designs that work and stick to it. Get 10-15 good layouts and use the left over time and energy on more dirt and using the full space.

No clue why u get downvoted. But yes I agree. Tho I have a feeling they already get feedback from the riders but dont really care? Or have strict rules? idk. Just cant imagine they dont know what riders dont like, what doesnt race good (long, sweeping rollers for example). So perhabs they dont have much to say when it comes to the design and they are just doing what they are told to do? Would be interesting to know how much freedom they have, and who makes the final call.

They do an incredible job building the track, I remember rounds this year where it rained a lot and somehow they managed to still provide a track for the mains which almost raced as if it was dry. Not to mention how freaking fast they are. They really know their sutff really well. Just would be cool to have that skill expand on better tracks.

I thought the event was 100% great, but the track was not. They needed an MX guy to keep the track up so there would have been more than one line. They should have clean up the areas where no one rode all day to open up more lines. Great event, but track could have been maintained better

I wasn’t referring to a single event, just supercross the last 5ish years in general.

Im pretty sure there is one regular Loretta lynn racer (and hes an ex pro who could still naviate a SX well), who is very involved with atleast the construction of the blue printed tracks. Im sure he is restricted in some regard by higher powers tho.

This right here, I will also say that current track designers dont have shit on the track designers of the 90s & early 00s. Whatever group it was designing the tracks back then. Had way more freedom and creativity (Not talking only about that pastrana track).

We need matthis or pulpmx to get to the bottom of the track designs and who has the final say on these things. I would love to hear their reasoning or even the person who signs off on the tracks reasoning. However my bet is that, that specific circle of people fear themselves being known. Because well they frustrate everybody.

Those tracks were awesome. Especially Pastrana

I have been making tracks for 20 years out of post-it notes and scratch paper. Just waiting for that call

  1. Credit where its due: Dirtwurx equipment operators are like the James Stewart of skidsteers/dozers/bucket loaders.
  2. The Position/Job Description you are proposing wouldn't actually fly to each round. Not worth it. These tracks are designed in November, and graphically represented in 3D simulation by mid December, released by Christmas. So this "job" would be basically a 1099 Independent consultant basis, for roughly 45 days right there in the off season.

The other way to do it would be if the riders/teams Unionized, and demanded an approval process for the tracks prior to the season. Then this position would be a union employee within the approval body.

The major problem with the Union would be setting union dues that are fair to both privateers and factory entities, which would be virtually impossible.

And Juliette Feld, if you're reading this, you don't have enough backup teams and riders (scabs) to prevent this from happening, if it were to happen.

Round 3 had the best track of all of the SMX tracks.
