Were planning a Durango / Creede / Ouray area off road etc trip with the inlaws and grandkids next June. Got any secret spots Joey ?

I live 50 miles frum Durango and have been to Ouray several times (also Silverton in between) but have not off-roaded extensively either. I've got friends that have and know there's plenty of legal trails and even companies that have organized guided day adventures in the off-road areas. There are some really informative online videos about Ouray especially. Would like to actually stay in the local RV park and use that as a homebase for adventuring 1 day. That park is featured in videos and is North of town on the way to Ridgeway

My Tacoma does okay but I mostly explore on my dirt bike. I need to make it further south one of these days, haven’t explored that area much

We'll have 2 Jeep Rubicons and my basically stock TRD, 33's, Fox shocks, and rock sliders. We're just starting to research, here's a few that look fun. We're not about climbing up cooler sized rocks as much as finding "Cool bitchin roads and places" lol.  A 4 low lockers on section is ok, but we don't want to do miles of it.

FWIW.

My bone stock 2004 Tacoma prerunner, 2wd with rear locker, on Michelin defender street tyres, has amazed me at what it's been able to climb, and get through.

that guide looks xlnt for getting started. They mentioned preparedness which is critical on these adventures including Sat Comm of some type which is really smart. Here's another super important topic to be aware of: do NOT rely on trip mapping programs as your guide! Every year there are multiple backcountry rescues of unprepared tourists visiting and they rent an SUV and think they're set because the infotainments system has mapping and they don't question it as if the directions would be 100% accurate. They're not! They typically default to shortest distance between locations or fastest time. That doesn't work for mountain trails! We also have seasonal forest road closures in San Juans that can leave you stuck midway and some of the trails are too narrow to turn around or allow 2-way traffic. Always pack like a survivalist with extra water, warm clothes, snacks and blankets of some type in case you get stuck overnight on trail before rescue can get to you.

have you done that at 13,000 ft elevation in early spring with potential rock slides, melting snow/ice/mud on the trail with 1000' sheer drop offs next to you? Just be smart and safe out there and take nothing for granted. 🙂

Yankee Boy Basin, Ophir Pass, Imogene Pass, Last Dollar Road, the Alpine Loop including Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass, Corkscrew Pass, California Pass, Hurricane Pass, Animas Forks ghost town.  Avoid Mineral Creek and Poughkeepsie Gulch, and probably Black Bear Pass too.  Do your research on these just in case!   A lot of the good stuff won't even be open in June.  July is better.

I've got everything you mentioned except Sat Comm, although I "Think"? son in law has one. We learned if we're going somewhere we'll go into maps and google earth and take a bunch of screenshots for when we lose service. I think son in law has a gps too

does the system report just by touching it, or do you have to type in a complaint?

If so I may have fat fingered a few.

On my phone a strong breeze might trigger the mysterious three dots.

But I think it takes more then that to report someones post. Not nuclear codes in the football hard but i gather it takes some effort.

Soooo... imagine we're drinking beer around a campfire for a second...  lol

A guy who drives at 13,000 ft elevation in early spring with potential rock slides, melting snow/ice/mud on the trail with 1000' sheer drop offs next to you,  is telling another guy to be smart out there... 😄

Pretty sure he's especially partial to a Covid review and all the side effects of the vaccines. Extra brownie points if you have charts and links.

Get the COTREX app.  It works offline.  Select your activity and check out all of the available roads, etc.

Thusly, Fuck Politics In Non-Moto.

Why?

It’s done nothing but separate us.

Fuck my opinion.

And, Fuck yours, too.

There, isn’t that better?

Speaking of dogs...

This is Ollie's strava from a recent walk.

The mileage is wrong, it's 2.7miles

Doesn't take into consideration the back n forth across the street, or the occasional "crazy husky" outbursts.

7940

Not bad for a dog completely unable to stand, or walk 1.5yrs ago !!!

Or around here, driving down a gravel road, seeing an overgrown pathway and thinking "I wonder where this goes??"

And taking it as it gets sketchier, and sketchier, steeper, and rockier, way past the point where if you had half a brain, you'd have turned around.

And then it eases up and pops out on a paved road.

Being smart is for someone else.

Hey, Trail Boss Sumdood?

Dog Park? 8:30?

It really brings up the question of: Is the board better without politics or is the board better without the shit posters? I know my answer to that.

Will life go on? Of course it will but there are typically less than a couple dozen of us that can discuss topics without being asses to each other. How challenging is that really? There seems to be only a hand full of people that initiate the shit. Maybe MIchael could could give a time out from just "non-moto" if they can't be civil. Maybe non-moto could have a fee to participate? Perhaps a $20 entry fee, if you violate the decorum, you lose your privilege and if you want to come back it's $50 and 1 year probation from returning if you are a shit head again. People would think before they hit send.
