Kitchen will be better on a 450 most likely.

Who is going to put him on one when he cant beat half of the 250 guys in SX ?

Most of them are way to uneducated to turn pro until they are 18. Spend some time studying how to read , write and speak properly. Maybe a life skill or two they can use later in life.

Seems his results have been better than what Marchbanks did in 250s, but I could be wrong.

Do they??

I feel the kids would be whooping the old dudes. Deegan came in and literally only Jet and Hunter had him covered. Prado at times but thats it. He literally smoked the entire 450 grid in his 1st year except for the two alien brothers.

I rekon Kitchen, Shimoda, Davies, Hammacker, JuJu, and Hymas would beat every one of the old dudes (Barcia, Eli, Webb, Anderson, Mookie etc.) Most of the 450 class might as well be witches hats compared to Jett Hunter and Deegan (possibly Sexton but who knows where he's at anymore).

All those young kids I named pushed Deegan at times. No one in 450 class pushed Deegan at all except the brothers and Deegan is brand new to the class.

Even if you dont agree, they would all be probably top 10 at worst. Anyone currently after top 10 in 450 class might as well not even show up they are that far behind.

Marchbanks and RJ had no dramas coming in and whooping the old dudes as well. I rekon all the 250 riders I mentioned are probably better, at worst equal to RJ and Marchbanks.

Shimoda went into Motocross of Nations never riding a 450 and did brilliant and whooped most of the 450 guys.

I think everyone underestimates the younger guys and overestimates the older dudes.

I have no dramas with the old guys being there and I feel they should be. I just think all those young guys should also currently be there.

Every other motorsport all the best guys are in the top class. Motocross I feel they are split between the two and there are just a heap of dudes making up numbers.

If Kitchen would be say 12th in the 450 class, why isnt he racing 450? Id much rather see him there pushing out other 450 riders who are getting lapped by the 3rd lap.

Yea thats why I think its time for shimoda and kitchen to move up. I get wanting to win a title first on the 250, but in reality nobody cares about lites class titles. When ppl talk about kevin windham they call him the best ever to not win a title… he has two 125 regional sx championships. Shimoda especially really gels with the 450 and would be a threat for a win pretty quick imo, hes still one of the few ppl to have beaten jett and deegan both straight up. If he cant get it done this next year he should move up.

I think a lot of people care about small bore titles.

Yes, there are too many in the 450 class that are just riding around.

I believe the very top 250,s would get the ride the deserve, factory.

However the "other" 250 riders currently get paid too much, so there is no incentive to move up to a 450 ride that pays less than they currently make.

Smx next class

250 class, age out at 23

450 the premier class

Winning the 250cc class is the same if i won a D class regional title.

They are both training classes for the 450 Premier class.

I don't see a need for any promoter interference by adding age limits or other nonsense. If the factories thought a young 250 guy was a better option for their 450 factory team they would sign them. It is still a meritocracy. That we have so many older riders who are arguably better is the issue. We had a cycle of excellent talent coming up years ago and the last few years have been a little weak. Life goes in waves. Soon the older crowd will be gone and those positions filled. I do think SMX Next will raise the talent level of those starting to get to the pro level now.

it's not the rider's choice when and if to move up. everything here on that is just outsider commentary.

Correct, they race the class they are contracted to race.  If someone is suggesting the turn down a factory 250 to seek whatever they might find on a 450, they need their head examined.  That’s based on today’s rules.

However…

I think the NXT class should be 15-18.

I’d suggest 250 is 17-22.

And 450 is 18+.

Age limits does change the strategy for younger riders and would likely get us a slightly more youthful premier class.

But it might also get a few kids caught out.  If they were not quite there on the 250, going to be a tough row to hoe finding a 450 ride.

So then we need some more support and $$ in a regional series where the kids can race more, like EMX and earn their way on to the big stage.

I dont understand the critics on the 250 riders. Its such a good and cool class. I think with the lawrences, deegs and now davies coming up over these last years made us create high expectations... we are always expecting these huge talents, but that comes in phases.
we need good and medium riders like jo, juju, hymas, kitchen, ryder, trashed, mcadoo, hammeker, brown, romano on the 450 eventually, replacing the oldies

That “old and tired” field of riders produced some interesting racing last night.

Then, after the racing was done…one of the “older guys” went and apparently had a throw down with one of the “younger guys”.

I guess he wasn’t very “tired”?

Why get a real job when someone is willing to pay you to race a dirt bike for a living. I think it’s awesome .

Pro Moto isn’t anywhere near as dangerous as what a construction worker does involving all the trades in construction itself. So I guess it depends on what job you would be doing. Behind a desk, I’d have to agree with ya.

The defensiveness in response to my post is weird.

That said… Webb and Roczen were exhausted and nobody further back did anything at all.

There simply isn't any 'Legend' status riders coming up from 250. Tomac was probably the last. I guess we have Deegan now who will do well. But other than that there is no one.

Question for people who follow other sports:

Are there “legend status” professional athletes like there used to be? Or is everyone like a 7 out of 10? I don’t follow those sports at all anymore, but growing up there were always superstar athletes — like Ken Griffey, Jr. with his own baseball video games, Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, etc. When I do watch a baseball game now, everybody sort of blends together, much like our 250 class.

Have you sampled the product the schools are turning out? The illiteracy of High School graduates is abysmal.

I'm not super up on the major sports like I used to be. But I think the skill level in baseball is crazy high right now. They have that Japanese dude Otani, who might go down as the best player ever. He's a nasty pitcher AND hitter. Its unheard of. The NBA is hot garbage. All they do is shoot 3's and have changed so many rules that have made the game exponentially worse

Davies is breaking everybodys records right now. He already looks like 450 jett but on a 250. Hes an extremely promising rider. Then you have sacha coenan who will be here on 250s next year whos already a legend just with his 1 southwick race lol.

Hockey has some rockstar players right now that I’d say are on the way to legend. Bunch of good young bucks.
