When Bush sent out stimulus checks or whatever they were called back then. My parents refused to deposit it . We had it stuck on the fridge for years. I think it was $800 and then maybe another one. The were not doing great money wise just scraping along and living in our means. I'm sure if I look hard enough I could find it. My mum saved everything.
I'm sure there are people in the position to be able to stand behind their principles and not accept the money. The sad thing is that most who can will not , and that so much can just be bought these days. I'm sure a lot of people could use an extra 5K, I know that I could. But I do not think its a good idea or a good precedent to set. To put the government offices literally up for sale just feels li wrong. And lazy . Instead of spending money on research and finding out what is popular policy ,running adds, etc. Just offering a payment for the vote feels like the beginning of the end.

What if they go the other way, Offer $2500 but give the American public a promise that it will happen and run based on reducing the deficit by handing out less money . And point out that Trump has already promised 2 other checks that have not happened. And that Democrats have always come through on their promised bribes.

I think that Trumps bluff about this check is as much to fire up his base and make them worry that Democrats will just spend the next 2 years investigating Trump if they gain the majority and sell that his only shot at following through on the promises he made is holding the majority. Not to buy a vote that he doesn't intend on paying for.
He's also claiming the Iran war will end and gas will be under $2 a gallon if republicans hold the majority. What will he offer up next?

If it even happens, no one is forced to take the money, but if it’s dropped into my account I’ll take it and won’t give it a second thought. I’d like to see all my kids get a bump as well.
Don't get me wrong; I am not a Biden fan either. I wonder if Trump's actions might set the stage for a much worse problem down the line than anything Biden did, however. First, pull some old posts and show receipts for your claims. And it's not hypocritical to be against a rule change and then after the rule IS changed, play by the new rule. Biden out right changed the rules when he said vote us in and we'll give you $2,000 and a host of other things. The game has changed, like it or not, Trump's just adapted to the new rule.

We have all seen how past stimulus checks have done more to increase inflation than just about anything else other than the Iran war and the tariff's.
Its not being done to help the economy, its being done to help a political party at the cost of the economy.
Take away the short term benefit of getting the money that I'm sure all of us would have a use for.
