I think it's more like Biden promising  $10,000.00 in student loan forgiveness during the 20' campaign. I really don't see a big difference but then again, I didn't vote for either one.

Providing any kind of cover for Trump does sting a bit but like I said, I didn't vote for either one of those guys. And it's really not cover. It's just a whataboutism and always just confirms the criticism which seems to be lost on most of the people that play that card. If hypocrisy, amongst politicians and other party faithful, had even minute monetary value, the government would have been able to pay off the debt with it long ago.

So is the swamp drained? Or did Trump just dive in head first and slop it up?

So the government that steals half of my income, now has the audacity to try to bribe me to vote a certain way by offering to return a pathetically low percentage of my stolen property to me?

Ya, Trump can fuck right off, and so can the Dems for trying to bribe people with all of their other idiotic schemes.  The Republicans deserve every single seat that they lose in the midterms, and it would take a hell of a compelling reason to ever get me to vote again after the disaster these last two administrations have been.  Absolutely kills me that I have to live with the fact that I voted for this POS for the rest of my life, like an albatross around the neck.

Don't beat yourself up too bad for voting for him. 2016 was actually a rational roll of the dice. Hillary????? So you get a pass there. His administration didn't produce any of the disasters that were predicted. It was what happened after he lost in 2020 that turned me into a never Trumper. His current administration is on a disaster roll. For all the damage he is doing he gets no pushback from Congress. I hope all the coward Republicans lose. I don't know if it will bring up a more rational crop for 2028 or not but I want the fuckers punished.

For all the good things Trump could have done in office, he continues to amaze with poor decisions. This is just one more example.

So to the haters, when or if the check comes just tear it up! You know you won’t or wouldn’t.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

When Bush sent out stimulus checks or whatever they were called back then. My parents refused to deposit it . We had it stuck on the fridge for years. I think it was $800  and then maybe another one. The were not doing great money wise just scraping along and living in our means.   I'm sure if I look hard enough I could find it. My mum saved everything.

I'm sure there are people in the position to be able to stand behind their principles and not accept the money. The sad thing is that most who can will not , and that so much can just be bought these days.   I'm sure a lot of people could use an extra 5K, I know that I could. But I do not think its a good idea or a good precedent to set.  To put the government offices literally up for sale just feels li wrong.  And lazy . Instead of spending   money on research and finding out what is popular policy ,running adds, etc.  Just offering   a payment for the vote feels like the beginning of the end.

It would be hilarious if the Dems offered $5001 if they win

What if they go the other way, Offer $2500  but give the American public a promise that it will happen and run based on reducing the deficit by handing out less money .  And point out that Trump has already promised 2 other checks that have not happened. And that Democrats have always come through on their promised bribes.

Could that help them or hurt them?  Would  more people believe Trump or Democrats?

I think that Trumps bluff about this check is as much to fire up his base and make  them worry that Democrats will just spend the next 2 years investigating Trump  if they gain the majority and sell that his only shot at following through on the promises he made is holding the majority.   Not to buy a vote that he doesn't intend on paying for.

He's also claiming the Iran war will end and gas will be under  $2 a gallon  if republicans hold the majority.  What will he offer up next?

I would give it a 20% chance of a check or payments happening.

That’s awesome that your folks did that. To me the 5k is no different than Biden saying he would cancel college debt. If it even happens, no one is forced to take the money, but if it’s dropped into my account I’ll take it and won’t give it a second thought. I’d like to see all my kids get a bump as well.

Don't get me wrong; I am not a Biden fan either. I wonder if Trump's actions might set the stage for a much worse problem down the line than anything Biden did, however. Imagine if the "progressives" of the world Kumbaya themselves into a full-on Socialist fervor and outvote reasonable people later? Then their elected guy or gal takes the Trump playbook and runs with it. Heaven forbid Gavin Newsom lands in the White House and turns this country into a giant California.

Man, it sure would be cool to see a Constitutionalist run for office for a fucking change. Just one more time before I die. Please?

The point I’m making is both presidents have done the same thing. Whether or not I support both or one and not the other, is not what we’re talking about. But you know that.

It tests the honesty of the parallel being drawn, because if we're saying they're the same, but then don't treat them as such, then we're being dishonest about saying they're the same.

At least the Republicans are not handing out crack pipes and syringes, or letting known criminals back out onto the street after having them in custody.   The democrats are actually doing these things.

Nope they are just dismantling our democracy or republic (whatever you refer to it as), stripping us of public land we ride dirt bikes on to the highest bidder and ushering in a surveillance state.

I think the embracing of socialism and communism by the democrats is a bigger threat to our Republic. I also think the democrats are more of a threat to our public lands. Wasn’t it obama who declared millions of acres off limits to anything with a motor?

First, pull some old posts and show receipts for your claims. And it's not hypocritical to be against a rule change and then after the rule IS changed, play by the new rule. Biden out right changed the rules when he said vote us in and we'll give you $2,000 and a host of other things. The game has changed, like it or not, Trump's just adapted to the new rule.

We do 👍🏻 unlike Republicans we keep our base happy. Besides why would we need welfare if we didn’t have crack heads? That doesn’t make sense.

I doubt it will happen , and I wasn't for the Biden version either.  I thought it sent the wrong message and hurt the people who had been smart with money and had already paid of their loans or never had a loan to begin with.

We have all seen how past stimulus checks have done more to increase inflation than just about anything else other than the Iran war and the tariff's.

Its not being done to help the economy, its being done to help a political party at the cost of the economy.

Take away the short term benefit of getting the money that I'm sure all of us would have a use for.

What about the long-term impact?  adding to the debt, more than likely cause inflation  to rise , short term product shortages with price increases.

It is expected to cost $1.2 T

The amount paid out by SS tin retirement benefits  over the entire 2025 was $1.32T

Total payroll  tax's  collected $1.77T   (roughly 34% of all taxes and fees collected)

Total Corporate income taxes $452B

Seems wild to be giving back so much when You look at how much it is relative to other areas and how it will be a negative impact long-term.
