The integrity of college athletics has officially left the building, and the final nail in the coffin came from a Houston judge who ruled that Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby can play this upcoming season for the Red Raiders after admitting to gambling on his own team.
We have now lost the entire plot, and there is nothing anyone can say that will put the blame on the NCAA in this case.
Welcome to the party, where anything goes. This includes getting away with breaking the one rule that anyone with a pulse can agree on: don't bet on your own team.

With the amount of money involved in college football, I could actually see something like this end up in the courts. I don’t know that the challenge would be successful, but I could definitely see it being brought.

WoW!!!!! I'm a bit late to the party as I don't watch much college football at all, but my gawd that was a terrible call, the clock clearly expired! 🙄
Shifting gears although it's old news, I also think having college players get paid is so wrong. All the best recruits will go to the richest colleges that could afford them and top players are making between five and six million!
I'm so old I remember when only one or two college games mattered. The Rose Bowl and the Orange Bowl. Now, I don't even bother to try to keep track of who's who and I end up not even watching. The Pac 10 use to be west coast teams like USC and UCLA now I don't even know which conference they're in, nor do I care I've lost interest. 🙄😴
Paying the top players is a big advantage, but even being able to bring in the ‘filler’ players is something that gets overlooked sometimes.
If you’re a recruit and you’re going to get a relatively modest salary/stipend, the facilities become a major selling point. Oregon is the best example of this. Eugene is not exactly the most exciting place in the world to go to school, and the academics are fine, but not stellar. But the way that Phil Knight/Nike have funded the athletics department is insane. The locker rooms and other facilities are so incredible that most of their players who go on to pro careers take a step backwards when they leave Oregon.
Paying the players is a conundrum, I think. The revenue generating sports can profit incredibly from the athletes’ efforts, but unlimited payments to athletes completely destroys any veneer of competitive balance that was left.
