Silverado/Sierra STD Bed Vs Short Bed

I currently have the short bed but had the 6.5ft bed on my previous truck.  I had started looking for the same length bed on this one but had to make a purchase and just went with the short bed due to timing.  95% of the time it's fine but there are definitely times where I really wish i had the longer bed.  Much more versatile.  That was my best truck configuration ever.  If you are on the fence, I would just take the time to look or order one.

Agree the 6.5 is more useful (at least for me) but I do like the look of the shorties.

When did 6.5' bed become a standard? I thought we were talking 8'? My Dodge is 8' and the short bed version is 6.25'

I can fit a short bed in my garage so I don't have to worry about getting annihilated by hail every Spring. Otherwise idk.

My 2024 Ram has the Crew cab and the 6'4" bed but I had to order it because the 5"7' bed is standard on the crew cabs but its worth it to have the longer bed.

I have sierra with the 5 3/4 bed. My tacoma has 6.5 and it is nice using that truck with the longer bed. For what I do 5 3/4 works but the 6.5 would be nice. Would be a lot of truck though with a crew cab. 

I had several work trucks with the long bed and dual cab and quite honestly they're a giant pain in the butt. Parking is hassle, the don't fit in most garages and they're ponderous on twisty roads.  If you've got the room to store one  small enclosed trailer with your existing truck is a great alternative.

My last two trucks were extended cab 6.5’ beds. I’m currently looking for a 3/4 ton so I can move to an 8’ bed. Two bikes and camping gear and a 6.5’ bed is full with the tailgate down. Kids want to bring mountain bikes but there’s no room left in a 6.5’. The one foot might not make a difference if you’re just hauling a bike and gear. 

You can get away with loading two bikes in a 6.5 bed and with the gate shut. First bike needs to hug the drivers side, then you need crank the bars all the way right and kinda wedge it in the front of the bed. Second bike can be loaded normally on the passenger side, then you can grab the rear wheel and swing it towards the first bike. You should still have room in between both bikes on the sides for your camping stuff. No camping stuff you might still be able to get away with two MTBs if you get one of those tailgate mat things and put em next to the passenger side bike with both front tires hanging off. 

One bike corner to corner in a 6ft bed is really nice for ease of loading and mounting, but the limit to one bike with the gate closed sucks.

The 5 3/4 bed is perfect for a single bike. Plenty of space for the bike, gear bag, ramp, stand, etc. It’s also easier to manage for everyday driving (parking lots especially). Here’s the bike in bed after speaking with my wallet a couple weeks ago.

I had a 2020 silverado rst dual cab with regular bed.

Bought a 2024 trail boss, got it hone and couldn't park it properly.  Turns out they make a few dual cans with longer bed... never knew, I was stoked lol. Just an 3 point turn to park now haha
