New gen Tacoma six foot bed and carrying a bike

I fit my 450 in my 5.5' bed f150. Front wheel straight into front drivers side corner, then slide rear wheel as far to passenger side as possible. Allows me to still close tailgate. I assume you'll be just fine in a taco too like that. My only dislike for the taco is how small they feel inside the cab. Wifes best friend has one and i feel cramped in it. Plus my 2.7 gets better mpg and handles my towing needs better. No hate tho, tacos are nice trucks. Just sharing my reasons for my choice. 

Buy a F150, for the price tag the truck doesn’t impress me at all… you can buy a four-door F150 for less and actually be able to tow shit..

I have a ‘19 4 door 6ft. My 450 fits diagonally with the gate up and everything is great about the truck except the gutless pos barely 16mpg V6. 

Don’t overthink any truck bed.  Bed extenders are so obvious I don’t know why truck owners don’t automatically buy them.  I use my extender for a hundred other things than just bikes.  
Couches, beds , surfboards etc.  I do agree with the F-150 though.  Solid American truck. 

Yeah, they get shit gas mileage. It’s a great little truck, but there’s better options, especially if you plan to tow anything. 

Good timing on this thread ! 😛My son bought a new work (old) truck today. 2003 base model Tacoma with a 6 foot bed. Not a fan of silver but it was a garage kept one owner truck in great shape. He bought it new in 2003 and had every service receipt and all the original manuals 156k miles. He’s stoked no more piling up miles and beating up his 2022 TRD.

It will tow but must put in sport 4.  Then hit that ecs button.  Im not 100% but I think the ecs changes the shift points.  I have had a previous taco with the 4 speed v6.  Much better package that truck was as far as power and drive train.  The 2019 i have will do well but you have to push some buttons otherwise its shifting ever 4 seconds.  The motor makes power but its a 250f in a world of 450s.  Gotta rev it.

I don't know about on the new gen but I would image so, if you are planning to get the long-bed version. On the 3rd-gen there is plenty of room to close the tailgate. You can go corner to corner, like Bodycast posted above. I like to roll it straight in and just kick the rear over. I can't image the 4th gen long bed would be small enough that you couldn't do that. Worst case scenario just have to get one of those gate extender things.

^ Yeah, I can get a full-sized bike in my 2nd-gen Tacoma easy. Straight front wheel and kick it over like AH387 mentioned above. 

If I leave the tailgate down, I can get three bikes, stands, a gas can, ramp, ez-up, chairs and two gearbags in there. 

EDIT: I'm pretty sure my truck bed is 6'. 

1: The backup camera is on the tailgate so with it down, you see nothing but the ground. 
2: The tailgate down adds 2 more ft to the length of the truck.
3: A bed extender is another thing you have to buy when you should've just bought the right truck in the first place. 

I'll put the 5.0 in my f150 up against any truck engine for both daily use and reliability.  

Fucking Over-Rated Disaster

Somehow we went from this^ to having to ask if a single dirtbike will fit in the “bed” of the chopped off mini-vans they try to pass off as new trucks now.  Where did we lose our way. . .

I've been super happy with my short bed 4th gen. If you like it, but it. Don't listen to the hecklers making all the negative noise. I haven't personally put bikes in a long bed, but the width is just over 57", so you could theoretically work out the math of what it will fit like. I'm confident it would fit diagonally. 

Ive been resisting barely at going out and picking up a TRD Sport 6 foot bed, this thread aint helping.

Anyone got the new TRD Sport with the full premium package? The only other option Id want would be the trailmaster with the 6 foot bed because it has the hybrid and it absolutely BOOGIES for a small truck.

How to do it right.

I just went through this decision and picked the short bed Nissan because 99% of my driving is with tail gate up and the smaller turning circle of the short bed was more important to me than having the backup camera working.

Seriously though, y'all are missing out on not driving a Cybertruck. 

Having FSD that drives you to and from the track is a godsend. Especially when you live a couple hours away from tracks and you're exhausted after. You arrive ready to ride and get home alive (not falling asleep at the wheel). 

Then there's 220V in the back if you need it for your e-bike. 

Seems cool. It also seems like you are about to get obliterated by the Vital "Eff the E-motos and electric cars" crowd. I feel for you. 😟

You don’t drive around with your bed extender out on a daily basis.  Only going to track or the rare occasion you’re hauling a huge couch or something.  Comes in mighty handy.  The other 6 days of the week it’s tucked away.   Tailgate down with bed extender 2 hours.  The other 166 hours of the week tailgate up.

same. We have a 2018 F-150 Super Cab Sport 6' bed with the Coyote 5.0. Covers all our needs for towing, dump runs, Home Depot runs, horse hay, towing Horse & camping trailers, etc. We love the extra room behind front seats for stuff you want inside and occasionally seating extra passengers. It has selectable Normal, ECO, tow/haul, wet modes. Can get up to 20 MPG unloaded with 2 of us in it on varied terrain. What's not to like? Sharing it with wife sometimes overlapping priorities but I bought a 2024 Nissan King Cab V6 with 6' bed to rotate in as needed.🤷

I rent Tacomas all the time when I am on the road, and I have them to pickup bikes, and yes you can fit one with the tail gate closed.  They are good trucks, but the prices I have seen on them seem ridiculous, even though they are supposed to start in the mid $30k range, but you go to a dealer they all seem to be closer to $50K.  By contrast, I have seen Jeep Gladiators being offered by dealers for way under their list price.
