James Sr. is pretty protective of his son, not just as a mini-dad but because Bubba is a ground breaking black racer in a predominately white sport (not saying he's the first black man to ride a dirt bike, just the first to achieve real success). It's nice of us enlightened folks to think that race doesn't matter in this day and age but anyone with a lick of common sense knows that our sport draws more than it's fair share of knuckle dragging throwbacks. If you've been around the sport long enough to see Bubba "come up" then you've seen reports or been to races where people have yelled stupid shit and even thrown things at him. The times may change but some people...not so much. I'm not implying that anything racist happened tonight but I'd be willing to bet that past incidents have made James Sr. hypersensitive to the possiblility and maybe explains why he feels the need to "be close". I'm not trying to make excuses for someone showing their ass....but until you've walked a mile in........

My main point was that he has always been very emotional and has never held back but on the flip side, when you get to know him he is an awsome guy who cares about his kids and family and even the other competitors as well. Although Reed may not be on his "favorite" list right now.
Still, this was great racing and everyones emotions were running high, I was watching and my wife thought she may have to call an ambulance after this one. It jus felt good to see real racing where the 450 guys were going for it win or lose. Again this is not attacking any other rider, just an emotiional hard fought race down to the wire. I may not sleep tonight.

When my son was racing the west coast 125s, we had an off week and decided to race the 250 class at St Louis. Tamer, our team was planning on having the rig at the race, along with Kevin who was my sons mechanic, but something happen at the last minute and they had to cancel. We were already there so I had to act as my sons mechanic, which I have always seen as a no no. You would not believe how many times I had to show my mechanic's credential, while big James could come and go as he pleased.

It was total bullshit.

I have been there for many years and it was the same.
When we were fighting on Motonews for the medical team to be at the races, I almost got my credentials pulled for trying to fight for the riders rights to medical care.
I am with you 100%.

We go to sleep each night knowing that we did the "right" thing and that is all we need.

I was watching the race at my 74 year old mom's house with friends. Even my mom, who's never seen a SX, was wondering why James Sr. was flipping out? It looked bad.

Whether he was yelling at James (as in telling him off) or simply telling him to go back to the pits - I wouldn't want someone yelling in my face like that, making a scene. If my Dad had ranted at me like that I would've asked him if he'd like to ride the fucking bike next time instead?

It's also the complete polar opposite of what Big James did in Dallas 2002 when, after James hit the deck for the umteenth time, he walked clear out the stadium. Neither incident was very impressive.

Always easy to woop out the race card, its always easy and available. The guy acted like a min-dad, and hey, I have done that a time or two myself, but put the race nonsense away. It was racing, he got hot. The issue is whether on not he acted in a professional manner. Personally, I think it is more entertaining to let the emotions fly.

Erin was going for the interview of the century. James Sr didn't want him to blow it on TV. Would had been better for James to get interviewed and say I should of had better control of the corner by letting Chad under me and pulled a rookie mistake by letting him take me out. James would earn more respect by being mature and not letting it phase him. There's always next week.

Exactly-Chad should continue to remember that episode for as long as he races. Everyone on here wants "no holds barred" racing and that is what we've got, so let the best man win. The bottom line here is that the top guys don't look at James as invincible any longer, they can put up equally if not faster lap times, and they aren't afraid to trade paint. Everyone used to rag on Chad for not stepping up-well he is, and, he is doing it on his own dime! Stop complaining and enjoy the best season we have ever had.
