If I remember my history classes correctly, the lake was never named by Canadians anyways. Local indigenous natives did. Long ago .The province of Ontario was named after the lake. So changing the name really didn’t take anything away from the Canadians. We never really had any dibs on the name anyways. But chalk it up as a win , if it makes you feel better.
