Josh is a natural in front of the cameras.  Down to earth personality , knows what the heck he’s talking about and always professional.
I’m rooting for him

Just watched hold fast’s first video on crf450. Was good quality and glad Josh addressed his time at mxa.

I have been a MXA reader/online follower since 1981. The magazine used to be relevant. Since 2009 MXA has compared every CRF450 with the holy grail 2008 model. That’s almost 20 years. If you review all their tests they always refer to that bike as being the greatest ever. Despite how good it was that was a very long time ago. Since Josh would have been 11 when that bike came out I doubt he’d have any memory of it. Adding “one tooth to the rear sprocket” on almost every bike gets old too. I suggest Josh wanted to get out from the antiquated status quo and do something on his own. He put in his time and now he can be independent. I’m looking forward to his new content. As far as MXA goes they’ll be hard pressed to get a replacement with Josh’s level of talent and writing ability. It will be interesting to see how long MXA is going to be around in today’s climate

It's almost always about the money $$$$$$$$. He's good on camera and knows his way around the bike. He can explain things extremely well. Watching an MXA test video hit 200,000+ views generates a lot of revenue and its passive revenue, not a 1 time check. The video is done and out there, and the checks keep coming in every month.  He probably did the math, realized that he's the one doing all the work, and wants a bigger piece of the pie. We all would do the same. I wish him the best.

You don't Make beans in this industry.....unless you do something yourself. He made the right call.

Hold Fast is the name of his new venture?  I think I would have chosen something a little bit more MX-centric, but maybe it will work out. When I googled Hold Fast MX, this is what came up:

Yep, and I guess his new schtick is a white helmet and not orange. Although it was funny seeing this week in MXA today that he hosted that they filmed previously.

Well I hope he has a lot of success at his new chapter. He seems like a genuinely good guy and he definitely helped improve the digital aspect of MXA while he was there!

Part of me wonders if MXA cut his position to a part time one so he left to do his own thing.

I noticed this as well. I'm kind of bummed because I felt like Josh had the ability to bring back some of that old MXA glory. Say what you will about (the now 79 year old) Jody, but he built MXA up into something of an institution. Before RacerX or even "The Racing Paper", there was MXA. I think MXA needs to be preserved the way 2-strokes need to live on. Josh had the ability to make that happen.

No disrespect to Daryl and Dennis but they don't have that "je ne sais quoi" needed in contemporary video-based media. The target audience has changed, as has the format for delivering moto-info. Hopefully they can keep it going for years to come. But they'll need to find some fresh blood.

I do miss Jody. If he made some cameos in the MXA vids, that'd at least get some of the old guard more interested in MXA's content. He was polarizing but his role in the American motocross scene cannot be overstated. He was the only one who had the balls to speak up about Luongo, Srb and Youthstream's corrupt ways. I wish I could spend some time with the dude listening to his stories firsthand.

Nice take on MXA. I feel the same. I have been around sense the first issue of MXA back in 73. I say they were the go to up to the 90s. Things changed in moto in the 2000s (probably the 4 strokes) but MXA didn't seem to grow. When Josh came on it got interesting again and I always went there for the stuff he was involved with. As you said it will be tough for them until they find someone like him. I also agree that Jody should pop up on the videos ever now and then. He knows more than most of us will ever know about the sport. Old guys would like to hear from him and I don't mean just repeating the same old stories on the MXA web site.

Good luck to MXA and to Josh in his new career path. I will still watch them both to see how it turns out.

He was a full-time employee who decided to take a new path, as he explained in his own video. Super simple.
