Because it wasn't done with deliberate concerted intent to re-write history or erase Greek etc culture and its people. If anything they are held and have always been held in great regard. At worst it was insensitive, perhaps.. i.e the standards of the time, but I'd hesitate to even call it that. It's akin to all the actors in 'Rome' speaking with a British upper class accents when portraying a noble family, and the working class sounding cockney... Often they'll choose an actor that's good looking etc etc it's as deep as that.
There's no real malicious intent to say Alec Guinness playing Prince Faisal in Lawrence of Arabia etc. He was chosen because he was at the time a well known name and good actor. Audiences watched the movie, liked or disliked it, and there's nothing more beyond it than that. Not that the west hasn't used propaganda to disparage other people in malicious ways e.g anti Japanese representation in cartoons during WW2, making out black people to be animals in cartoons etc. But again it was of its time and rightly wouldn't fly now.
What we're seeing today in the west is purposeful. It is an attack from all angles on its own people. Race swapping historical figures is but one point of a giant diversity/DEI iceberg but more than that it's a charge for revenge, not fairness. The BBC and universities have been very open about "decolonising" Britain and all its institutions - it's a badge they wear openly and proudly.

That suggests your concern isn't really Greek authenticity. It's that you see the casting of a Black actress in a traditionally European role (of a fictional character) as part of what you believe is a broader, nefarious cultural shift affecting white or Western identity.

I will concede that when the character is entirely mythical it's easier, but given that in this case it is a Greek legend I don't think casting someone with a mediterranean look is an unreasonable expectation here. The oldest historical art we do have depict a Greek looking woman/Goddess. Most of the world (The Greeks especially) would expect to see that.

I don't think so. I don't think they're particularly extraordinary at all. The cultural zeitgeist we're going through is in every aspect of our lives now across the west, and even fails to go unnoticed by those with an otherwise passing interest in poltics. It's openly discussed and argued across all institutions and platforms - politics, law, game design, the media, the police, film making, art, education etc. Often aggressively in terms of decolonisation and addressing past grievances - putting Britain aside it's rife throughout America and Hollywood too. You really can't miss it or escape it... I have every reason to suspect a casting choice like this is motivated by such people, rather than the actress being right for the role.

Yes, though they're ultimately linked. That's mostly my entire argument really. I don't believe she fits the role of a Greek legend and worse, I believe she's deliberately been chosen because she doesn't... Such casting is likely due to deeper nefarious reasons motivating by politics. It is just one small example.
